Angry Tyler

I sold him the car in my sig back in April, It didnt run and only had the short block in it. I dont have a bill of sale becuase I trust people on this board, I just signed the title over and he gave me the cash. I got a red light ticket in the mail earlier this month and it was in the car I sold him. I pmed him and he said that he sold the car, had a bill of sale and the car was back up for sale. I need to know what he is going to do about it, It says I must respond to it by sept 3rd. It also says That if the ticket is not paid the car cant get registered and I got another letter in the mail saying the registration was up at the end of July.

http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/titles/faq.htm

How do I notify TxDMV that I have sold my vehicle?

Let us know the vehicle is no longer yours by filing a vehicle transfer notification. You only have 30 days from the vehicle's sale date to submit the vehicle transfer notification to protect yourself.

After we receive your transfer notification request, we will update the record to show the vehicle as sold. When you file the notification within 30 days, you cannot be held responsible for such things as parking tickets and toll violations that may be committed by the person who bought your vehicle.

Another way to protect yourself, is to always keep your license plates whenever you sell a vehicle. You can transfer the plates to another vehicle.
Sounds like you are screwed ...

May not apply to a red light ticket ... but it's worth a shot ...

I received a violation notice (parking or toll-road) for a vehicle I sold. What do I do?

It is very important that you notify us of the sale of your former vehicle so we can update the vehicle record. Complete a Texas Motor Vehicle Transfer Notification and mail it to the address on the form. When received, we will place a notation on the vehicle record indicating the vehicle was transferred and the date the transfer occurred. Our record will continue to show the seller's name until the new owner transfers the Texas Certificate of Title into their name.

I sold my mom's car a couple years ago. And fortunately, I did indeed fill out the transfer form link in the FAQ. I have received hundreds of dollars in fines and tolls all from camera evidence.

Having proof that I submitted the form was a bank account saver.

It would have taken you 2 minutes to print and fill out a bill of sale.

Think next time.

You can fill out a form claiming you don't own the vehicle anymore. Very easy. You will not be held responsible

not much you can do then, the plates are tied to you/that vehicle in your name/and your address.

but whoever he sold it too obviously never retitled it which that too is illegal.

I'm sure it will all work out. it's not like this hasn't happened before.

it was illegal for him to sell it without titling it in his name first.

Call the courthouse. Shouldn't be a problem, but it is a hassle. Always remove the plates. That way the new owner has to register the vehicle. Plus, you will no longer be tied to it. I have been burned a couple times with this whole "trust" issue.

Tyler doesn't work for me but he is on a cruise and I'm sure he will work with you when he gets back. What you and him did on your on time shouldn't be put on here reflecting me. Hope you two can settle this off the board and ill have his status changed.
