Default New 85mph speed limit?

Just found this article about the new speed limit on some highways in Texas.

that will be no where around houston to affect me at all... a lot of houston drivers are idiots so i would hate to see them raise the speed limit to 80 much less 85 in or around houston.

Considering the velocity increase of only +5mph I would recommend against it. There may not be an increase in the # of accidents but I would expect the # of accidents ending in fatalities to increase. @ 85mph you are moving at 125ft/sec., a reaction time of 1.5sec. (or 187ft), and a stopping distance of 531ft. = Going to rename I-10, I-DEAD!

I think it is a great idea. I also think that people obtain drivers licenses too easily. The problem is not the speed limit. It is incompetent or over confident drivers that cause accidents.

i guess it would be cool because i already drive that fast normaly and wouldnt have to worry about getting a ticket but at the same time everyone already goes above the speed limit and i would be worried about the other drivers, changing it to 85 people will be doing 90 - 95, un called for lol

these, but i'm not worried about people going even faster because they probably wouldn't notice the change anyways lol
