Default New tires for car

I've been looking for some new tires for my car. I'm getting the 315/35/17 and while trying to decided between the Micky Thompson vs the Nitto I came across these.

NITTO NT05R DRAG RADIAL

Has anyone ran these tires and what were your thoughts?

What are your thoughts between the MT or the Nitto 555R? My car is in the 400rwhp range and it is not daily driven. I'm looking for a tire that is going to last a while and hook good when I need it to.

The NT05R is a direct competitor for the Mickey DR. Neither of them will last more than 10K miles, they are very soft. They also will have you spinning out on wet pavement, so don't ever plan on anything other than sunny day cruises.

If you want something that lasts a little longer, the NT555-R is a better choice, and those can be driven in rain.

I was looking at the NTO5R myself they are 330.00 each for 18's at discount tire. They even had them in stock. The Hossiers drag radial is supposed to be the one but they don't make it in an 18. Bobby( N2O kid) at Clear lake speed runs them and his relative runs them in the 275X class. They swear by the Hossier. The MT run about 20-25 bucks more then the Nitto. FWIW.

Its a fair weather car but it still gets caught in rain. LOL

I have the 555R tires on the car now and they have been good.

Not scared of a little rain.LOL We spun around 4 lanes on the beltway years ago on BFG's. Right after you go across I 10 heading N. It scared the heck out of me. Did a full 360 and stopped about 3 ft from the insde wall . Still facing N. Hell I drive around on slicks and skinnines now. I guess I like the pucker factor. I also have the battery mounted in the hatch and about 75lbs of tools back there. It helps alot.

Yea the 18's are $$$$ compared to the 16's and 17's. We ran the MT 16" and it worked well. lasted about 6mos and several John Force type burn outs. I lost some 60' foot with them but gained mph compared to a slick or ET streets. The elasped time was about the same.

If the NT555R's are already working for you, I'd stick with those.

On the street, my 555R's hook awesome, no tire spin unless I just get stupid and do a 6K clutch dump from a stand still. At the track, they need A LOT of heat but I can get 17-20K miles out of them and for $140/tire (Discount price match 315/35/17), that's not bad at all IMO

Where do I get the price for them to match? I've been seeing them for around $200 each shipped

Chad I've been running the nt05r on my car for a while. They hook good but like everyone else says they suck in the rain. Also on some of the cruises we do in the summer they don't like the high speed curves.

I'm bias to MT's. No more then I run the car with the exceptions of meets from time to time, 10k miles should last me pretty long.

I'm a sunny day driver though.

Chad, why not just run nto5s and mount the drag tires on some cheapy 16x8s or a used back pair of prostars for when you want to play?

I'm not going to deal with a 2nd set of wheels. The car will never go to the track because of it being a convertible. I don't really go to street meets so I just want a decent tire that will work when needed.

i had the Micky Thompson 315/35/17's and loved them, now i have the NT05's same size and they could be worthless. They dont hook whatsoever, Ive let mine down to 10 lbs trying to get some traction and still having issues. i will be picking up a set of Micky Thompson's soon as these are toast.
