Good luck man. I had a coworker that had to pay 10k in lawyer fees because the dad took the mom (coworkers wife) to get full custody. Lawyers are going to rape you financially.

I hate to be the one to say it but unless she is a Crack head/Felon you better get ready to spend 10-20k and there is still a 75% chance she will still get him/her. It really suck the court system sides with the mother in these type of situations.

Sometimes it is best just to save the money and try to work out joint custody and wait till she slips up and then file for custody.

Good Luck and hopefully everything works out for you.

Bit of advice: Use a local lawyer who is in the local clique, not one from out of town. If he's from out of town you'll eat your retainer up on travel fees, and he'll lose interest as the case wears on. He'll be a stranger in a strange land and you'll pay for it.

A half a dozen visits from CPS, prescription meds being used that weren't in her name, failed drug test, bad living conditions, crappy clothes, 95% empty refrigerator, proof of much of this with pictures, and all of this on $1,000 a month in child support, and I STILL couldn't wrestle by oldest boy away from his mom........I don't regret it and never will.........BUT I'll also never see that $30k again either..............its gonna be an all uphill battle for you man, be prepared. Good luck to you man.

Yeah they do, It sucks when you know your daughter would rather be with her dad. I'm trying to find an aggressive lawyer but then again that might not even work

Odds are in mom's favor. Indeed, she'll need to be the crackhead/felon mentioned above...and that only makes your odds 50/50. The local attorney is probably the best advice here. Remember, your kid can choose where to live after a certain age, I think it's 11 or 13, check on that. Make it so your child WANTS to live with you (not bribery) is probably your best bet long term. Knowing what little we know, if you go this route, you are about to burn tens of thousands of dollars.

Let me ask this, say if we decide on joint custody and when my daughter is of age can I appeal the decision the judge makes later when she's old enough to choose.

X2, Let he know you will give her the 10-20k cash and it will save both of you Lawyer fees. Try to work with her on it and it will be the best for the 2 of you. If she is a broke bitch I bet she will take the money.

Its best to be civil no matter how made you get. Just stay calm and don't get worked up because it will only make matters worse. Let he have visitation and what ever she ask for. **** tell her you will not make he pay child support and then wait a year or so and hit her with it.
