texas laws
I just got stationed in FT Hood/kileen TX. My trans am is still in FL. My question was regarding if texas has state inspections or what ill have to do in order to drive my car. Keep in mind FL had no inspection/emissions req. testing.

Depends, I you are changing your "permenant" address you will have to get the car inspected first and get a "green" slip, which is actually pink, then take it down to the tax office and transfer the title to a Texas title.

I kept out of state plates on my Camaro the entire time I was stationed at Fort Hood. Active duty military are exempt from having to convert.
I also kept my driver's license in my home state. Turned out to be a smart move because points from tickets in Texas didn't register on my license. You just have to be smart and pay tickets promptly and don't let any of them turn into a big deal.
Sharing of traffic violation information between states may have improved since then, so I cannot say this advice is 100% accurate now... but it was in the late 90's.

yes you can and should keep your vehicle registered in FL. The soldier and sailors act allows you to keep your home state (where you enlisted) as your state of residency regardless of where you live for duty. Ive remained a resident of florida even though I havent lived there for the past 9 years. I kept it mostly incase i get stationed in a state that has state income taxes so I dont have to pay that ****, but it also helps in a case like this where you dont have to get a TX inspection. The only thing you need to find out is if the base requires an inspection regardless of where your car is registered, I was fighting that battle for a while but ended up buying an S10 for a daily that had just been inspected.
