Default red spray paint on wheel after crash why is this?

General sincere question here. My good friend just bought a used 09 Z06 from the insuranve auction for parts last month. He was going to sell tje wheels but noticed red paint sprayed on them and the battery terminals in the rear cut (after airbag deployment).

I was told this typically meant fatality, but this car does not look like it was serious enough for injusies nor fatalities. The car hit a tree solo from what he told me. I am more curious than anything else. Thanks for the imput guys.

Sometime dps does this just to mark out the chain of events or vehicle location during an accident... Not always a fatality. And the battery terminal being cut, I would think was by the FD to kill al power to the car, since that is what we do I helicopter crashes to kill all power

Frank got it, if the car skidded off the road or was involved in an impact the cops will mark the start to the end of the crash with spray paint on the road. Most FD will cut the battery cables on any car that has had an airbag deployment

You nailed it paint is just marking resting position of vehicle after accident.
I'm volunteer fire at home small FD we cut all cables to make sure vehicle is electrically dead to prevent fire during removal and transport to storage.

Thanks guys, I did not think it was a fatality because the impact was not that bad. The car is actually repairable and did not indicate fatality. Someone (interested in the Z06 wheels) made that comment in general conversation which sparked our curiosity.

Even if a vehicle is involved in a fatality they are not marked or ID'd in anyway. If it's a really nasty one they get rinsed out with bleach and water and stick a biohazard sticker on a window.

He really bought it for the widebody, brembo brakes, and ls7 drivetrain. He was not too worried about the frame or body.

Correct fellas. Part of crash investigation. And yes, the FD will often for safety, cut or disconnect batteries.
