I've got it made. I live 3 miles from the Walmart warehouse in new Caney. I'm in porter. Pretty good place to live. Housing has gone up the last 9 years as usual. But, I live in a neghborhood that is decent with no one tripping on my shop I built. I'm quick access to 99, which is right between 45 and 59. Not sure if I could be more pleased.
The warehouse loves to hire veterans as well. Pm me if you want some details. They start at 16$ an hour for regular jobs and maintenance is 21.15$ an hr starting out.

Oil field may not be the best place to look right now, but petrochemical plants are still hiring. I'm 3 weeks from graduating with my degree in Process Technology and that's a healthy six figure job, though as others said, extremely difficult to get into. They can and do hire people with just military experience, though they almost all want your MOS to have been technical in nature in some regard, but I don't know how much they really care about that or not.
It wouldn't hurt to apply for operations jobs as you see them.

I'm in Kingwood. Huge trees, great schools. But...pain in the *** HOA's and whole "Kingwood Bubble". The damn KWHS parking lot looks like something from River Oaks. But there's a ton of old car guys here, and the commute to downtown is the best around. F 45 and F that toll road. 59 is 80MPH in the morning.
