cause on a aluminum ls1 you have to get it sleeved. and by that time why only go 408. 427 is best on alum block. iron block can be punched out quite a bit. with a 3.75 stroke crank and .060 i beleive ya get 408. a lot cheaper than a 427 too.

Because everyone is tired of all of the coolant leaking and sleeve shifting issues the re-sleeved aluminum blocks bring. The Darton LS1 sleeve set-up is not a 100% cure for this from what I am hearing lately.

Plus you can make just as much horsepower with an iron block N/A. The last one we did here made 541rwhp N/A, and we just finished another(dyno #'s soon) I understand that some of the latest big bore Darton big cubic inch engines are making between 530-560rwhp but you never hear about them after the dyno # is posted? There is a reason for this. I would rather give up 20 hp and not deal with the issues of a re-sleeved aluminum block. Just my opinion.

Plus, I agree with robv910, to spray the **** out of it!

Oh, it's easier on your wallet also.

A 408 is a 6.0 ltr iron block bored .030" over and a 4.00" crank or at least mine is. I run the iron block because you can safely throw more N20 at it. Sure it weighs about 100LBS more than the aluminum block but you make up for it in durability and the size of shot you can run.
