what should i go with 355, 383, 396? i dont care about gas milage, emisions, but i do care about big HP, and reliability. i do want to be able to jump in it and go anywhere i want. it will b an occasional street car and a tough track car. i would like to get around 500 rwhp, and then put a 200-300 shot on it. i want to do this right, but money is a little bit of an issue, i would like to spend 5k or less, is it possible, what do you recomend?

500rwhp with an naturally aspirated and reliable LT1 is possible but not within your budget. It would not be something you could drive anywhere anytime you wanted. You might be able to get 440-450 rwhp if your budget is just for the engine but I don't see having a shortblock capable of a nasty power adder.

Just a crank, rods and pistons is around $2300 for a 383 or 396 unless you cheap out on them. Then you'll need some really nice heads, figure another couple of grand. The valve train another $800 or so (cam, rockers and lifters). So you are already over your budget and haven't figured in any labor or gaskets.

If you are interested in a low compression 1 (8.5-1) Ive got 1 that has about 10 miles on it with a few dyno pulls that i would be willing to sell ya ... Still has a t-76 attached to it if you are interested in that as well ...

LME, they have a great reputation for high quality well working motors, be it in a street car or race car. They also have built some killer LT1s

Exactly, you would spend close to all your budget on heads and intake for a set up like that.

Not to mention solid roller valve train, shaft mounted rockers and a belt drive setup. You'd also need to spend more cash on the crank and rods to get there.

Daniel's motor is really nice. It has a cola 4340 forged 3.75" stroke crank, Eagle H-beam rods, JE .040 over pistons, 4 bolt splayed billet mains. If you wanted the long block it has LPE cnc heads that have been reworked by Yelvi, flow around 275 on the intake and 218 on the exhaust (LT1 castings). Also has head studs, cometic gaskets and the intake has been modified to use a conventional distributor (has a dual sync MSD one at the moment). Also has a brand new 58mm Holley TB on it. It has the Crower hydraulic lifters with the block modified to use them, had to mill the lifter bores slightly.

All the machine work and assembly was done by Hans Feustel in Fort Worth. If you've ever watched outlaw pro mod or the Texas true ten 5 stuff then you know his name. Also did Joe Dasilva's and Jason Carter's motors (both made over 2200hp).
