Tech Member injured-needs prayers
Hey,
I just wanted to let everyone know that my husband was in a really bad accident 2 weeks ago. He is a regular member of this site and all the warm wishes and prayers we can get the better.
He runs a family owned business working on water wells, primarily pumps and windmills. He was climbing the windmill tower ladder when it broke at the top, angled at about a 45' angle jolting and breaking both wrists. When his wrists broke he obviously could not hold on and fell 30' to a rock bottom where he instantly loss movement and feeling from the chest down. After an hour of being bitten by fire ants and his co-worker trying to get paramedics to him, he was finally air lifted to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, TX. When he got here the CT Scan revealed that he had broken C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5, and C-6 in his neck. Luckily C-2 thru C-4 were anterior fractures and did not affect the spinal cord, unfortunately C-5 and C-6 were compressed against the spinal cord causing the paralysis.
Luckily one of the best neuro surgeons I know-I'll explain shortly- was on call and he went into surgery around 2 a.m. to decompress the spinal cord and stabilize his neck. Now it is a waiting game. We have to wait for the swelling and bruising to go down and to heal for him to recover. The outlook is never good when it comes to the spinal cord but we have TOTAL faith in him for a FULL recovery.
When he came in 2 weeks ago there was no movement or feeling from the chest down. He is now slowly regaining some feeling and movement. It kind of comes and goes, but he has had sensation in his legs and he felt me massaging and even pinpointed exactly where I was massaging his thigh. He also has feeling or tingling to about an inch below his belly button, and he is able to move his arms and shrug his shoulders.
Now the crazy part. Before we were married, when we were distant acquantences I was in an ATV accident, I broke C-6 and C-7 in my neck and was paralyzed from the chest down. I had the same neurosurgeon, given the same outlook that I would more than likely never walk again, and so far we have even shared many of the same nurses all who remember me as the 17 year old "miracle child". I walked out of the hospital 45 days after I was carried in paralyzed. After about 6 months unless you knew what had happened to me, you would never know. Now all that remains is weak hands and a slight limp when I am really tired. Even though there is still a black hole in the middle of my spinal cord on my MRI I'm walking.
This is why I know that he will too. We just please need your prayers, and any feedback would be great from you guys. I have a laptop in his room so I can give him any messages from you all. Right now we are still in San Angelo at Shannon, but they are wanting to send him to a major rehab center possibly Baylor in Dallas, TIRR in Houston, or Reeves in San Antonio. It also depends if we can find financial help. Baylor requires $30k up front(which is only 60%), and being that we didn't have any insurance we are hoping to get a charity spot or find a foundation to help us out. Our local town is also taking donations and for a town of 5500, we have been very blessed to have so many loving people.
Just please keep him in your prayers, we believe that God will heal him to be even better than before the accident but we need all the prayers we can get. Here is a link to our local newspaper of the articles that have been published thus far. If you are in San Angelo we were on the news KLST last Thursday, and this Sunday the San Angelo Standard times will have us as the cover story with pictures and the in-depth story. Thanks in advance for the prayers and I will keep ya'll updated.
