Default How do you make longutbes legal?

My dad isnt going to let me run a "illegal" car after i put my headers on. So i have to get EGR headers with O2's, no biggie. However, this means that my new exhaust will need a cat. Is it possible to run legal TD's or is it possible to have a cat in my Y-pipe?

Longtubes will relocate the position of the cats. Catted or not if you get visual inspected still not legal.

Some places dont care if they are relocated as long as they are there.

Herers the inspection criteria
2. Inspect for and reject if:

a. The exhaust emission system has been removed.

b. The exhaust emission system has been disconnected.

c. The plumbing or hoses are loose, broken, leaking, or improperly routed.

d. Air pump (air injection-type) belt is loose, removed, excessively cracked, frayed or has pieces missing.

e. The exhaust emission system has been altered in any manner to make it ineffective.

f. The catalytic converter has been removed, leaking, or disconnected on a 1984 or later model vehicle.

Its says nothing about placement of cats, as long as they are present it should pass.

on my mach1 all they did was hook the computer up to it and it said all was good (emissions). they never looked under it. they just lifted the hood and look around, checked horn, lights and drove it to test the brakes and check my ins.

My car already had single dumped exaust with long tube headers on it when my parents bought it for me then my dad had dumped duals done and the cost for everything to be done was only $200. So i couldnt see it being to much.

Do you have a reference for that comment or are you just guessing?

Hey...Just use an off road y with your headers....get some o2 sims to replace your rear sensors and cruise on down the track with a lot less restriction.

I have never had a prob with passing inspection! If you dont fail...your not illegal I have no cats...all emissions capped off and dont even have the smog, a.i.r system on the car at all!!!!!!!!!!

I'm surprised there aren't some of those "friendly" places around. When NC moved to emissions inspections there were still places you go to get passed for about $20 extra. Are there more rules in Texas that keep us from having those places? And yes for those who are wondering I have never had to register/inspect a car in Texas.

That is federal law. It may not be in TX state inspection guide, but it is in fact a federal law. Why do you think no LT's have a CARB #?

So what, I think this thread is about passing state inspection not whether or not is passes CARB and federal emissions since there is no real federal smog ***** running around.
