need a little ta buying advice
i'm currently an intern at my local chevy dealership, have to do it to get my AAS degree in AT. well they just got a 2002 WS6 on a trade. pewter, m6, ebony int. 48k miles. has fat chrome zr-1 wheels. i talked to one of the salesman, and he told me they wanted 17 for it. now, if i were able to get it for 17 out the door, do you guys think it'd be a good deal? if i trade my current DD, i'm guessin they'll give me 2,200-2,800.?? any advice?

Out of pure cusiosity, whats your daily driver???? I used to be an intern at the local Ford Dealer, not anymore there, 3 years ago they got a car exactly like that one, except it had an A4 and factory 17 inch wheels, it was also a true WS6 with about 20,000 miles, I could have got the car at that time for $17,000 since it was what the dealer "gave" as a trade in for the car.... call it whatever you want, maybe a desperate buyer in need of a truck! Or just someone big enough to not fit in the WS6 anymore.... but the car was beautifu!!!! . As an employee.... they're not supposed to upsell... just pay some sort of a fee, like a standard fee added to the trade in value they gave for the car... at that time it was about $500 for me, pricing the car at $17,500..... I didn't have any credit at all to get it financed!!!!!! car didn't last that long and sold for $20,000!!!!!! I'll say get it, but investigate if they're upselling it some, find out exactly how much car was traded in for. Might be confidential info to you, but its worth trying!Just look on them being fair on the price... Good luck! It does sound like a good buy at that price, being the last of the breed trans am and a true WS6.

my dd is a grand am. and actually, i think i remember that pewter ws6 at ancira, it was nice. i could get more for my car if i sell it, but if i were to get the ta, it'd be soon, and i dont know how long it would take to get rid of mine. i would want that cash for a DP so the monthly payment wouldnt kill me.

Examine the car thoroughly, put it on a rack[car lift] get a carfax, the whole 9. If the car comes back clean, and it passes your approval then go from that point.
*Main point- make sure your not getting screwed on the financing end.*

$17.5k seems a bit high for a 02 ws6 with 48k. not high by maybe $1000-1500, id price that at $16k. This is how I would think about it if I was you: Have you been wanting this kind of car for a while, and it has all the parameters you have been looking for (pewter, M6, t-tops/hardtop/convertible, leather/cloth interior)? Or does this car entice you now that you see it, and impulsively want to buy it? If you have been wanting a car pretty much like this, I would say get it and stop hunting around for this car. If you are buying it on an impulse, I would pass.
Does your daily driver run fine now? Think about if the person tore the hell out of the car and the engine internals are a mess. Or the transmission doesnt wanna go into second gear. Or the limited slip ends up slipping around turns. Check for rust, misfiring, smog test, clutch slippage, etc. Drive it for as long as your dealer will let you to check out everything about the car.
I found a 2002 Camaro SS silver, m6, t-top, cloth interior, every single thing i wanted in a car (with 7,xxx miles) for $20k in july, 2005. For reasons beyond mine or my banks control, she didnt end up selling it. I think that was a steal. I would say that 02 ws6 you are looking at is a decent deal for both parties, not all that great of a buy.
If you have been looking for a car something like this one, buy it. If you saw it and want it, I would pass on it. Believe me, you would rather wait and get the exact car you want than buy this car now and see the car you had been dreaming of sell to some tool for lower than you would have paid

yeah this is the vehicle i want, i've wanted one for years, the one thing i dont like, which can be taken care of easily, are the wheels. not a big fan of the chrome zr1s, seem too plain jane to me. and don't worry, if i get it i'll make sure to give it a multi point inspection.

That's a very good price. 2002 WS6's with decent mileage are becoming harder to find at a good price. My 2000 Trans Am was stolen last year and I replaced it with a low mile (9,000 miles) 2001 WS6 6-speed. I looked all around the country for a good one with less than 20,000 miles. Nothing under $20K. I was fortunate to find my car in Houston and it was black. But, like I said, harder and harder to find. The miles your potential car has are still very reasonable for the wear and tear on our cars. Nothing to worry about. If you can swing the financing to get it and still be able to buy some Fruit Loops at the end of the week - then do it!
