Default $300. Need 1/4" and 3/8" torque wrenches and recommendations.

I should say that I have $275 to spend since the other $25 will be sales tax. I want to get snap-on, but I cannot afford them. I want something that is made in America, not some crappy blue light special Harbor Freight pos. I'm not going to be building my own engine with these tools, but I would like to keep them for the next 20 years or so.

Ive got husky and mastercraft, i know you cant get mastercraft in the states but you should be able to get husky. Its a nice quality wrench. It was like $100.

Harbor Freight sells S-K torque wrenches at good prices. I saw a 1/2" for 89 bucks so you should be able to get the ones you want less than that.

I don't trust harbor freight. Any other recommendations. I looked at a Husky, but was turned off when I saw it was made in Tiawan.

why not finance through snap on...that way you do the right thing and get a great product from the beginning.

check ebay for CDI they are extremely nice, i have one. I took a tip from a guy that works at some snapon site over on corral.net. says it is the same exact thing as a snap on with a different label.
from looking at it...it is.

Allright, I think I'll buy the snap-on $223.50 QD2R100 3/8" wrench and cheap out on the 1/4" wrench. So what's a good 1/4" for under $75?

In this case I think I might try Craftsman. You don't know how much I hate Sears, but I have a Craftsman 3/8" drive torgue wrench that I bought when I was on the road one time. I needed one real quick and didn't have a lot of money to spend. It's been a good one though I very seldom use it. It and an old 1/2" unkown brand one, are my "loners"

Go Snap-On
I bought the 1/2" digital torque wrench, does ft. lbs. inch lbs. and newton mtrs.
50-250ft.lbs. and goes down to like 25 inch lbs.

If you go with the 3/8 digital you might get away without having to buy a 1/4"

how about a model #, never seen a Snap-on torque wrench scaled 50-250ft#'s, but could go down to 2 ft#'s when necessary. That is pretty cool

What are you planning on building, and what are you going to use a 1/4 torque wrench for? Get a 3/8 inch lb if you are setting up rear ends, and a ft lb that can torque heads and call it good. 20 yrs is a long time to use a torque wrench. You could always buy a new Craftsman every so often, but that digital Snap-On is the awsome.
