Tools for a motor swap? Engine build?
Well I am building my 408 starting next weds and want to order any tools I need right now so I have everything I may need ahead of time.
I have plenty of torque wrenches
misc picks
full socket sets and basic tools
engine hoist, jacks, jack stands, engine stand
camshaft degreeing kit
piston ring compressor
matco degree tool(for degreeing bolts after torquing)
Nifty JPA engine lift plate tool
BFH
What else am I going to need? Im sure im leaving some out of my list, but hard to remember everything. Also, this is on a pickup, if that makes a difference, so motor is coming from top, not out bottom like fbodies.
Thanks for the help guys,
Lurius

Actually, I found my fuel disconnect tools(plastic ones, but they work good). I have plenty of time and patience, but I am just hoping I dont need to spend much more money lol.
I think I have all the parts for the motor, but I know theres something that will end up needing to be purchased before this is over.
Any more tool ideas?
I ordered a new pair of gloves from Summit(damn good gloves) as well as an ARP cylinder head bolt hole cleaning tool, and a thread restoring kit from Craftsman to get the gunk and rust out of some holes.

A set of outside mics for checking pistons.
A set of snap ga's for the lifter bores.
A dial bore gauge to check main, rod brg clearances.
A rod vise.
A set of thread chasers.. NOT taps.
A ring filer.
A dial ind bridge to check deck clearances.
An adapter for installing the degree wheel, and turning the engine.
Ht mic to set the valve spring hgt.
A set of adj push rods to determine the correct length.
A set of checking springs for checking piston to valve.
This list should get you started...
I've likely forgotten some items.
Most, if not all, are available from POWERHOUSE, in Memphis.

Got the motor build started today. Right before I needed the rods I drove to the machine shop and the guy used his rod vise and loosened them up for me. Saved me the trouble of buying the tool.
Hoping to be finished with the motor build on Friday or Thursday.
Thanks for all the tool advice guys!
