Default 1995 Caprice 9C1 for sale $4,000

1995 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 (Police Package) - The highest performance four door production sedan ever built in America (Similar to the Impala SS except the SS is speed-limited)

***** Now have photos to email. *****

260hp LT1 5.7L V8 Corvette Engine and 4-speed Automatic/Overdrive Transmission, white exterior, blue interior. 1996 was the last year of Caprice production and the 1996 models were virtually identical to the 1995 models.

1995 Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Tests*
0-60mph 7.53 (Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 8.99)
mile ET 15.87 (Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 16.88)
mile Speed 89.8 (Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 85.2)

1996 Michigan State Police Patrol Vehicle Test Results*
0-100mph 21.47 (Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 25.18)
Top Speed 139 (Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 135)

In the history of Michigan State Police vehicle testing, a single full-size police car has won all six test phases only three times. The 1990 Caprice. The 1991 Caprice. And, in its last year, the 1996 Caprice. No other full-size car has done it once. The Caprice did it three times in seven years. Winning the price and performance based Michigan State Police contract 10 years in-a-row (1987 to 1996) clearly proved the Caprice was the best overall police car ever made by anyone.*

The Caprice kept up the pace by setting an all-time record stopping distance for any four-door police sedan.* (1996 Michigan State Police test)

*from the book Chevrolet Police Cars by Edwin J. Sanow

Some of the items included in the 9C1 package Include:
(Complete list available)

Heavy duty full perimeter frame

3.08 performance axle

Special police pursuit suspension includes front and rear stabilizer bars, special springs and shocks, firm-feel steering, and specific body mounts

Firestone Firehawk PV41 (Police Vehicle) P235/70R15 Speed Rating V (149 mph) tires

Front and rear disc brakes with ABS and semi-metallic brake pads

Transmission oil cooler

Dual electric radiator fans

Engine oil cooler

Special calibrated transmission (use overdrive for high speed driving)

Special balanced drive shaft

Air conditioning wide open throttle cut-off

Calibrated digital speedometer with oil, temp, volt gauges

Silicon radiator and heater hoses (good for life of vehicle)

This Caprice 9C1 has been my daily driver for seven years. The only reason I am selling it is that I bought a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro B4C (Police Package) to replace it. It now has 152,000 miles and is in excellent mechanical condition. The only problem I know of is the air bag warning light is on (bad sensor?). The PV41 tires are in good condition (26,000 on rear tires, 14,000 on front tires).

I bought the Caprice in July 2000 with 81,771 miles from Southwest Public Safety in San Antonio. It had one previous owner, the Balcones Heights Police Department. It developed a transmission leak that caused the transmission to fail. A new transmission was installed in October 2000 at 85,844 miles.

No rust. Located in San Antonio, Texas

Other repairs include:

New distributor, new coil, new platinum spark plugs July 2000 82,167

New ball joints, overhaul steering November 2000 87,118

New starter April 2001 95,516

Brakes overhauled February 2002 110,712

Suspension overhauled, new alternator February 2003 120,223

New battery December 2003 125,867

2 new PV-41 rear tires January 2004 126,005

New water pump June 2005 132,424

New radiator, new belts, 2 new PV-41 front tires October 2005 138,194

Transmission, differential, power steering fluid change March 2006 145,924

New spark plug wires, 10w30 oil and filter change February 2007 151,675

Items added:

Deer Whistles
Full Floor Carpet
Rubber Floor Mats Front and Rear
JVC Stereo Radio with Cassette Player
12 CD Player (in trunk)
Locking Gas Cap
Two Compartment Console Between Front Seats

Police Push Bumper with Speaker and Lights Removed but Available

Top speed in the 1996 Michigan State Police tests for the same type car, stock, was 139. With some mods on the intake and exhaust it could be made to go faster. I had mine to 130, once, in New Mexico. It seemed to still have something left to go at that speed. I don't have pics yet. I want to get it washed first and it is supposed to rain this weekend, so that will probably be early next week. It looks like every other 1995 Caprice. It is all white on the outside with a very good condition blue interior. Front seats are cloth and rear is vinyl. They made it that way so prisioners could throw up or bleed in the back seat (no evidence of that in mine, though). It has full size original hub caps and a short cop antenna on the right rear fender. I'll send some pics when I get them.

Bill

Of course they do. I call it a Corvette engine because the LT1 originated in the Corvette. The ad, BTW, was written for the general public - not for LS1Tech. I just posted it here because I already had it put together.

Default More Information

In late December or early January my wife and I were driving to work. We live at Canyon Lake and have a business in San Antonio. It was quiet for a while and she asked me what I was thinking. I told her I was wondering what I could replace my Caprice with if I ever decided to get another car (after driving the Caprice for seven years). I told her the 9C1 (Police Package) Caprice was the highest performance full size four door car ever manufactured in the U.S. There was nothing I could replace it with that would be as good and the last Caprice was made in 1996. I told her that the B4C (Police Package) Camaro did have an edge over the Caprice but they were expensive and the back seat room was so small as to only be useable by kids. Besides, the B4C Camaros were hard to find. That started me thinking about Camaros.

I had the numbers for a 1996 Camaro B4C but a little research revealed that the 2002 B4C had a BIG edge over the 9C1. To make a long story short, In January I flew to Florida and drove back a 2002 B4C Camaro (last year made) that had belonged to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Up until last month I maintained the Caprice as if I expected to drive it forever. It is in excellent mechanical condition. The interior is very good plus and nothing needs to be fixed or changed. The body has one dent in the bottom of the driver side rear door which was there when I got it. The right rear fender had some wrinkles in it when I bought it and later someone backed into it in a parking lot. The dent from the parking lot has been pushed out but the right rear fender still has wrinkles. It is good enough that I never bothered to fix it. All paint is original, no body work, no rust. There are four bolt heads visible on top the front bumper where the police push bumper was mounted. You can see them in the pictures; there is a bolt head on each side of the two deer whistles. The air bag warning light has been on for a while. It is probably a bad sensor but I have not bothered to get it fixed.

Kelly Blue Book http://www.kbb.com/ says the private party value (what you can expect to pay when buying as is from a private party), zip code 78216, for the 1995 Impala SS in good condition is $6,380 and excellent condition is $7,035. The Impala SS has most of the performance features of the 9C1 plus some appearance items, but is speed limited by the fact that the computer controlled transmission will not shift into fourth gear (overdrive) at wide open throttle. That is designed so that a cop 9C1 can catch an Impala SS. There is no price given for a Caprice 9C1 so the Impala SS price is quoted.

I really hate to part with my Caprice, but my wife and I also have the 2002 Camaro B4C to replace it, a 2000 Ford Ranger, and a 1974 VW Thing (jeep). Four vehicles for two people is a bit much. It has to go and will be a super buy for someone lucky. The price is $4,000 firm and it is available immediately. Email me for photos.

Out of all of that info what is the mileage of the car?
Also some of your info in this paragraph is very inaccurate.
Also I think the BC4 Camaros had way more than an edge on 9c1s.
Anywayz bump for a fellow 9C1 owner!

The milage is 152,000 as reported in the first post. What is an edge? The 1996 B4C was better than the 1996 9C1. The 2002 B4C is WAY better than a 1996 9C1. The best I've seen for a stock 2002 B4C is 11.25 / 118. There was also an 11.9 / 118.28. The stock 1996 B4C tested at 14.98 / 94.9 for the A4 and 14.99 / 96.7 for the M6. The stock 1996 9C1 tested at 16.14 / 88.0.

I call BS, no stock B4C Camaro ever ran 11's in the quarter. Mid to high 13's were the norm. And to the original poster, good luck getting 4K out of a high mileage WHITE 9C1. They simply aren't worth it. I can go to Key Motors in PA and get a low mileage non-white detective unit for what you're asking for it. I've owned a couple 9C1's and a P71 and they are all worth even less than a civilian Caprice or CV. They're not even comparable to an Impala SS aside from the drivetrain. From what I have seen on my time on the Impala SS forum, you can take the value of an SS and chop it in half and that's what a similar 9C1 is worth. I don't blame you for trying to get money for your car, but I think you'll be waiting a long time to get $4000 for your car. I only paid $2100 for this one in the same condition and 130K:

You may be right about the 2002 stock B4C times. They were in two different posts and are as valid as any without timeslips, which is to say unproven. Maybe they were not as stock as believed to be. Maybe two people were lying. Who knows? In any case, we both agree that 11s would be rare indeed. They would have to be Wednesday, as opposed to Monday or Friday manufactured cars, and ones where the LS1 fell together near perfectly balanced. Maybe they has LS6 blocks, although that is said not to produce any more speed.

All "edge" measuring aside, we seem to both agree that the 1996 B4C is better than the 1996 9C1 and the 2002 B4C is better than the 1996 B4C.

Fortunately I am in San Antonio and not in PA. 9C1s today are few and far between here. Value is also in the eye of the beholder. When I went out to buy a car in 2000, I wanted either a 95 or 96 C91. Regular Caprices and Impala SSs were of no value and no interest to me. Crown Vics were unthinkable. When I went out to buy a car in 2007, I wanted a 2002 B4C. A 2001 B4C or anything else was of no interest to me. In San Antonio, for a very clean two-owner 9C1 in excellent mechanical condition and known maintenance history for the last seven years, I think $4,000 is not only a fair price, but a good price. I'll be sure to let you know when I sell it. Thanks a lot for your assistance, "fellow 9C1 owner".

Dude I was trying to be nice.....but its so obvious you dont know what the hell you are talking about. Dude dont even bother arguing with me about Caprice 9c1s since I have worked on and owned 5 of them. I used the popcorn emote because it was only just a matter of time before another well knowledged 9C1 owner or even anyone with genaral knowledge about car values came here and schooled your dumbass!
I lived in San Antonio too fool, and there freakin 9C1s all over that damn city.
Your post are starting to smell from so much of this inaccurate bullshit your typing!
Well so much for me being humble to you, when your obviously too arrogant and cocky to listen to the correct facts.

But on a positive note I do believe your car may be worth the selling price you desire.....If in fact your statements about the car are even true and accurate unlike the rest of your "car knowledge"!
Good luck champ...."from a fellow 9c1 owner who seems to know more then your incompetent ***"

Well, I would hate to hear from you when you were not tryng to be humble and nice. Interesting that you lived in San Antonio and saw "freakin 9C1s all over that damn city." I have driven in San Antonio daily and I thought I was being very observant of other Caprices for the last seven years. I very seldom saw one and of those few looked as if they could have been 9C1s. I guess I was not being as observant as I thought I was. Thanks for the education. I do wish you had "schooled my dumbass" about the popcorn emote. I still don't know what it means.

I am glad to see you think my car may be worth the selling price I desire, even though I lack "general knowledge about car values".
