Default Front License Plate

I'm sick of getting pulled over for the same crap.... no front plate and my tail lights. I keep getting them signed off but it's damn annoying. Now I turn my lights on whenever I see CHP (all my tickets have been from CHP) so that fixes the tail light problem- they don't look tinted with the lights on. However, front plates on Tran Ams just doesn't look good.... does anyone know of a pop up license plate or something like that. I would like to be able to remove it from sight easily.

That would be funny. "What do you mean I don't have a front plate" then press the button as he walks back up front.

So now you ask him "Officer, would you mind signing off this ticket?" then walk up to the front and flip it up

Exactly

No law against motorized plates... as long as they see one there is all that matters.

You don't even have to go that far. It's one of those bullshit discretionary tickets. I've owned 4 F-bodies over 20 years and NEVER had a front plate. I always put my plate in the front window on the passenger's side and NEVER been called on it.

One ******* tried to get me, ONCE. He said, "You don't have a front plate displayed," and I didn't say a word and pointed at the plate in the window. He huffed and proceeded to try and get me for ride height (nope), then window tint (nope... tint was legal)... only thing he could get was tail light covers.

The same thing happened to me.... I even had the plate taped to the windshield but I still got a ticket. Not sure what got into CHP this year.... I haven't had a front plate on this car the entire 3 years I've owned it. I used to own a Mustang before and I didn't have a front plate on that one either. So now it comes down to the motorized or manual front plate

+1 Exactly what I have done. I have 1 bolt, 1 license plate, and 1 bracket.

Check California Vehicle Code 5201
It states that the front plate must be:
1. securely mounted to the vehicle so that it cannot swing.
2. clearly visible.
3. clearly legible
4. no less than 12 inches and no more than 60 inches above the ground.

Using that I went and obtained 4 small suction cups (like what you stick radar detectors, etc to glass). Drilled the holes in my tag slightly to allow me to put a cup in each. Curved the tag body to match windshield curvature and stuck it in the lower right hand corner of the windshield. Also put a copy of the V.C in with my copies of Executive Orders, registration and insurance card.

Now one thing to note:
The above will put you in complete compliance with the law as far as tag mounting is concerned. However, there is another CA. V.C. that prohibits anything from being attached to the windshield other than the factory mirror except in 7 sq inches of the lower passenger side of the windshield. This make most folks radar detectors, GPS's, etc mounting in violation of that law.
Any way that particular law is a little more obscure and I have yet to hear anyone getting a ticket for it. Seems they are so focused on the tag issue, the other is overlooked.

One more very important point:
I would be very polite when pointing out specifics of the law to peace officers. Some get very ticked when they perceive you to be 'schooling them' on the law. Best to just say that you found that code and are doing your best to adhere to it.

California, if it ain't one thing its another --- sheeee it.
