Default Need some help with a potential car I am buying

I went and looked at a ws6 today that I am considering buying but it wont pass smog of course. I will have the stuff to make it smog legal but it will take a little time to get it on(exhaust and cam). I am assuming when licensing a new car it will need smogged no matter what. Can someone help me out with what to do about smog?

You need a smog cert to register it in your name. The seller is responsible for smogging it. That being said, you know you are buying a car that wont pass. The owner probably knows some where that will pass it, so get them to get you a smog certificate.

If your buying it from a private seller. Have the person who is sellin you the WS6, get it smogged before you buy it. Just my 2 cents

So he can give the certificate to me to mail in with the license paper? What about where the shop sends the info, wont it still be under his name? I'm new to this smog crap just trying to understand all the details.

Once he gets it smogged then the smog certificate is good for 90 days to whoever he sells it to.

Alright lets see if I understand this.

Guy that is selling the car must have proof of passing smog which is good for 90 days then I have to do it again on my own. Now does the current owner have to smog it even if it hasnt run out?

The seller is supposed to have the car smogged when it is sold, thus it is valid for 90 days and you can go get it registered in your name. The smog goes in their computer system for the cars registration, so it doesn't matter who actually did it. Most of the time, private sellers don't smog it though.
