Use a heat gun and a rubber mallet. That is what I used on my daily driver.

any risk to cracking the paint or affecting the straightness of the panel?

No. The heat gun is used to warm the paint which keeps it from cracking while using the rubber mallet to roll the fender. Pretty simple. Should take you about an hour to do both sides.

you can use a wooden bat off your tire and roll them in, thats what my cousin use to do at his shop and it looked really clean. I just used a hammer and it worked great, you can just use a razor along the inside of the fender wel to sperate the paint.

also if you put a strip of masking tape around the bend/lip, it helps to keep the paint from cracking as well...
