Clutches
ok so i have been getting a bunch of parts together for my head/cam install for the bird it currently has a ls7 clutch in it and nothing is wrong. just figured id buy and have a new clutch for the future (kinda start saving now).
my 98 has a stage 2 centerforce dual friction and its a stiff clutch .... my ls7 is alot smoother.
anyone have any suggestions on clutches and how they have treated you....... and the HP/bolt ons /squeeze you have ran on them?
anyone run monster (there is a lot of good reviews on here)? if so what stages?
my planned HP will be 420-450 and possibly add a shot of either 100 or 120 down the road A BIG MAYBE???
thnks fellas

when i first got my car, it had a stage 2 centerforce clutch on it but it was warn to hell so i can't really give a good opinion on that. now i have an ls7 clutch and its great for driving around town, and handles a good beating at the track. i have a full bolt on car.
i'm also looking for info on other clutches, i'll be changing mine this winter when we get a lift in our garage.

I've had a number of LS6 clutches and one Centerforce Dual Friction on my P1 Procharged Z06 the Centerforce was a great clutch for the money. I would buy a Centerforce again but I upgraded to a Spec Twin with current setup F1A 418 setup great clutch also.

I seem to have had good luck with clutches that alot of people complain about... I always wonder how much of it is bad installs (not replacing the 50k mile slave, etc) and how much is it that the parts are bad.
Spec 3 did really well at 330rwhp, then couldnt hold at about 400hp/500trq with the turbo, could also have been because of the aluminum flywheel. A steel flywheel woulda allowed for a little more hp.
Dual Friction Centerforce did great w/ the turbo at 400hp/500trq, at around 475hp/580trq she started slipping a little if i would get on it really hard at the top of 1 and 2, and now at 530hp/640trq i have to ease into it in second and third but she still holds up great in 4th and 5th. She can handle the 9lbs of boost, just doesnt like it when the turbo spools hard. I love that with this clutch even if she starts slipping, it doesnt stay super hot. So she will slip and then i can pull out a little and get back into it and she wont slip. With the Spec 3 once she was hot, it was over.
For your setup, a Centerforce would probably do (no spray). Im confident she would hold the 450hp. Best bang for the buck! But spray on top of that, and youll need a big boy... With the ls7 you'd be pushing the limits at 375-400hp.
Ill be looking for a new clutch setup here soon, from what ive researched it'll either be Textralia or Monster.

I had the Centerforce 12" model for "Supercharged Applications" on my bolt on then H/C/I car. I will never buy another Centerforce product again. Their customer service sucks. If you do buy one get it from CMS and that way you are dealing with Ryne and not centerforce if you have issues.
The Tex I put in is a million times better. Ive heard alot of good things about the Monster clutches too, that may be what I try next just because they are a bit cheaper.

For the love of God stay away from Ram. My Powergrip died after less than 14k miles of being babied and ONE trip to the track @ 7k miles on the clutch. This was on a measly bolt-on car...
Not to mention it was the hardest clutch to disengage I've ever experienced by FAR.

I didnt find it anymore difficult to launch, but i agree with the rest. The Problem with going with the lighter flywheel on say a turbo car is it spins faster in transition (less weight) so its more likely (when your already overpowering a clutch) to slip. Steels thermal condutivity is better.
