Default Which GPS receiver???

I want to get my girl a GPS receiver for her birthday coming up. I want to get her a good quality unit, and not go broke either. I was thinking about getting her a Garmin unit, but I don't know anything about the major brands or different units.
I know that I want a large display, good picture, and voice commands. Help is greatly appreciated.

TomTom!

They have a more "realistic" map view and won't break the bank.

Really? I kinda like this one. It comes with the FM transmitter for real time traffic updates:

I really like garmin. I have used it all over cali, the east coast and europe. When my friend used his tomtom, I noticed it was not as accurate as the Garmin. This only happened in Europe so I do not know how it differs in california.

Thumbs up

+1 for Garmin Nuvis!
We have a TomTom too and it sucks, too hard to use, IMHO.
Let me explain: The Tom Tom works fine for like point A to B but for advanced stuff like lets say you want to go out to a concert in another city and state and you want directions, on the nuvi, you can bring up a list of "stadiums" or "arenas" and search thru the list, when we recently went to a concert in another city and state, we went in the car with a TomTom and could never find the arena that has been in the same location for 30 years, I almost tossed it out the window. And that is not the first time we have been in that type of situation with our Tom Tom, I hate it, really, but like I said for basic from here to there directions when you have the address it works like it is supposed to, other than that forget it , YMMV!

PS-The TomTom we have, was purchased for our college aged daughter when she went off to college, first week home she swapped us for our Nuvi and said she hated the Tom Tom, now were still stuck with thre TomTom...

Def go with this one. Me and Bryce used it all the way from Cali to Jersey when we took that road trip, it worked perfect. Screens big, and you can hear it loud and clear.

She'll like it....

Check out amazon for prices, definitely cheaper than BestBuy. Also they have a chart towards the bottom that shows you what the difference between the models are.
