Default help with cam swap in northern cali

Well i moved from Dallas which has a pretty lax attitude when it comes to building a decent street car. I have deleated my 02s on my tune so i should pass the smog test... Whats the best cam i can run with a moser true trac W/3:73s, 3600 stall and still be legal and pass inspection? The car runs great, 02 B4C, its got a new longblock (40k on it now), Slp/ ls6 intake, rebuilt 4l60E but no headers yet and a magna flow exaust. I figure i better beef it up while the engine is still sorta fresh and i want to start acumulating parts in preperation for the cam swap. ( i know i need ported oil pump and timing chain ect...just worried that the cam will get me on inspection....and i dont want the hassle. Shoud i get longtubes also or will the create smog test problems also? What are my options? I'm not moving back to Dallas! LOL!!
(Oh, Looking for 400-425 HP, not gonna supercharge yet, need to get this done first.)

no more than -4 degrees of overlap. so a tsp 224r 114 would pass. or a tr 224 114. or eps 222/226 etc etc. u get the idea. and you need stock exhaust and smog parts to pass visual. were r you in nor cal?

yeah only the front ones need to read but since we have 4 the rear ones will read if the cat is bad and send a internal check engine light and will fail you right away.

You will not get 400-425 rwhp through a stalled auto being cam-only and emissions friendly.
If I were you, I'd find a smog shop that will pass you for a few extra bucks and install long tubes and a larger cam, something similar to a Torquer v2 or F13. It usually is only ~250 bucks every two years, not that big a deal. And if you don't drive like a jackass and you don't have an obnoxios exhaust, you shouldn't get any unwanted attention from the cops.
Worst case scenario is you get a ref ticket and you spend a day putting your car back to stock and pass the ref smog test and then spend another day putting all the goodies back on. To me that's easy, others might find that too much of a hassle.
If you insist on staying smog-legal, you will have to come to terms that you are being forced to use shorties and a small cam, and you won't have a huge hp car if you are staying NA.

last i checked all long tubes were illegal in cali so i dont think youll pass smog with those if u try to get a legal smog. also i think you need to re think your goal, i dont think you can get over 400 rwhp with a stall out of a ls1 without failing a smog test.. u want that much power and to pass smog get a bigger stock motor. (ls2, ls6 ls3 ls7)

It will depend on your cam selection. It would make for a good torque monster, but I would go with forced induction over stroking the motor.

A used P1SC kit can be had for not too much money, it is smog legal, and you can easily make 400-500rwhp if you want.
