Default Smog Sniffers are out, BEWARE!!!

Lately ive seen several times where theres a camper on the side of the freeway and some equipment hooked up to it. theres a black box next to the lame an wires and stuff. Itll be parked for a week or so in the same spot. I saw one on the 55 south at the 5 interchange last month.

Currently Ive seen one at the on ramp to the 5 north from the Irvine Spectrum.

post up locations and date seen so that we can look out for each other

if they want to cheat ant catch us at our game, we can one up them.

Ill get a picture next time i see it if anyone wants.

can we make this a sticky?

Theres one in Irvine, right where you enter the 405 freeway from Irvine center drive. See it in the mornings around 10-1015. its not there all the time, but its there.

oops i said 5north, it was the 405 north.

actually since they get moved around im sure they write enough tickets to justify it.

Im also sure we have enough members on here that need to know about them so we can all avoid them.

I 'mentioned' what 'might' happen if some of our buddies with large trucks/tires get wind of this. They may get a lil tired at the wheel and might accidently damage some of this equipment while swerving. Could get scary!

If they look anything like this

than from my understanding there is no problem, they are strictly for survey purposes. You only have to worry when you see the actual smog dyno sitting in the street.

AFAIK you're not required to comply with roadside smog testing, you can't be ticketed or arrested for not wanting your car smogged on your own time.

Last I read it was for survey only, you don't have to comply, and it was more of a feasibility study (cost/benefit ratio).

I saw one yesterday and today with camera at 55N to 405S ramp. I didn't know if they were issuing tickets or not so I coasted on neutral with engine off while I passed by it. The owner of the company I work for was with me and when I explained to him, he just laughed, thought it was funny. The man drives a 550SL mercedes (not sure if its SL or EL, don't care either).
