Default 210 west Huntington Entrance, smog device?

So I was in traffic in Arcadia on the 210 West, passing the Huntington entrance and I look over to the right and see a black out vehicle with some kind of photo devices and two tubes located about 1 foot off of the ground with receivers on the other side of the lane. Is this some kind of smog screening device? Man I wish I would have taken pictures. Did anyone else see it?

thoes are the mobile smog detectors.

rumor is that they also have hidden ones on the side of the street they are small enough to not notice, yet big enough to take your plate pictures and measure your emissions.

There was something about this in the paper. There are gonna be a few of them on the 210. I forget where, but the article is somewhat recent, maybe in the last week or two.

I've seen them on the 210 also. They do measure emissions but they are not made to give people tickets. They are only for testing...

They have been out there on the 210 for almost a month now. Keep an eye out because they keep moving them around, I have seen them all the way up to La Verne.

From what I understand, like toofazt said, they are for evaluation purposes only and not meant to give you a ticket.

I'm guessing they first have to see if it justifies the cost and if they can make money on it. If its a viable money-maker, I'm sure they'll be as common as sobriety check points.

The bastards were at the Myrtle onramp today. I entrance before Huntington when heading west. I saw a report on the news last night. It seems drivers will be mailed a letter giving them two choices, a $500 credit towards repair or up to $1000 to buy the vehicle from the owner. I don't know how this works for all your ORY guys, or anybody with an extreme cam.

Here are some crappy pics I took from my Razr:

Well my buddy in Canada tells me they have just regular old beaters parked on the side of the road up there (looks like a broke down car) with speed sensors and photo radar equipment, speed and you get a ticket in the mail similar to our red light photo tickets.

Another buddy of mine was saying how sigalert.com shows the current local freeway speeds and even has cameras at various locations. Whats not to say big brother sends CHPs out to sections where the speeds are averaging 85+? or worse yet, see you speeding past a camera and dispatch a unit after your ***? I know, it sounds paranoid...but one day....I'm telling you.

The news report did show a guy sitting in the back of the truck. I thought they were unmanned.

In that first picture, ou can barely make it out, but in the rear corner of the truck, there are two cameras. One facing you as you come up and one for your rear (I guess to get your face and your rear plates?). They need those punk *** graffiti/tagger kids to go mess with this stuff, not brick walls.
