Default What Polish to Use on the Barrels on CCWS...need something agressive?

I use Mothers Awsome Billet on my CCWs and it works great on the outside...but the barrels are a little milky and the Mothers just doesnt seem to be agressive enough to cut it. What would you guys recommend? I hate to use sand paper on them because they arent "that" bad...but they are noticably milky compared to the outside.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use on them?

I use simple green and an old 100% cotton towel on the barrels of mine to get the majority of all the gook and grime off.. Then follow up with powerball and mothers billet polish. Does the trick very nicely

I used Noxon 7 followed by the Zoop polish. Worked like a charm on mine. I even went 6 months or so w/o polishing them at one point and brought them back to new like this.

Mine arent (and dont get) dirty enough to need anything to really clean them with. What I want to do is polish the inside out as nice as the face of the wheel is. They didnt come polished to that level from the factory. Mothers and a Powerball gets them very clean but they still look milky. So I need something with some grit to it I think to polish to the point the Mothers can take over.

It wouldn't take long to sand the barrels down and polish them out with some rouge and a polishing wheel.

The barrels are smooth with no dips or humps on the inside aren't they?

Fairly smooth...there is a lip on the outside edge but its not big deal. Do you thing sanding with 1500, then 2000, then wet sanding with the 2000 before polishing them out would work?

I have a few sets of CCW's and it can take a full day to due 2 sets. I use 3M Perfect-It II rubbing compound fine cut. On a 3" wool disc in my big cordless drill.

For the back halfs I use simple green or watered down acid. before the polish.

I looked around and scored sweet deals on my CCW classics. Paying $650 for my all polished set(17x10 and 17x11 no tires).<--Spent more on tires.LOL And $750 for my painted set (17x9 and 17x12 with tires). there where on race cars and VERY dirty but no damage at all.

If you go all the way to 2000 then polishing should be a snap. I polished out some curb rash from the outer lips of mine and only went up to 1000 wet. Here's what it looked like just before polishing...

And with one of those 6" buffing wheels, a corded Dewalt drill, and white rouge it came out shinier than Mother's polish and elbow grease has ever gotten them. Didn't take long either. I've never used a powerball on them since the centers are clearcoated and don't want to burn into them, but that may work well on the barrels of yours?

Wash them first with some steel wool and a Simple Green/ water mix to get any junk off and then just hit everything nice and thorough with the paper. You may want to start off with something a little grittier than 1500. You can always work your way finer. Then the finer you get all the scratches the easier they will polish out.

For the inside barrels on my CCWs, I used a product called "Mr. Metal". IIRC, I bought it in the houshold section of the grocery store.

i would go from 1000grit to 1500 and 2000, then hit them with a 6" pad and white rouge on an electric drill.

to polish the barrels the mothers billet will work, you just have to use the right towel. For example if you look at that billet polish is kinda abrasive. If you use it with a MF towel youre not going to get the same cut you would get as if you were to use it with a shop towel. Advanced or autozone sells these red towels im not too sure what theyre called. they feel like a linen texture but theyre not terry cloth. & those will get the barrels clean unless you want to go with a polishing wheel on a drill. But those red towels work very well. The powerball sucks ***** period. But try those red towels and some elbow grease. Its a cheaper route than sanding them, cause if you cant take out a milky residue by buffing them by hand. I really dont see how you may be able to remove sanding marks by sanding them. GL.
