Default 315-35/17 help

im sure this has been posted many times. Anyways i just bought some black zr1s, 17X9.5 and 17X11. My car is a 1995 z28 that is lowered about 1 inch. Ive looked around at tires and the thing i realize i may have to do is mod the bumper stop which is no problem here and also a pan hard bar. So my question is, what would be the best street tire to put on for the wet and dry conditions. Im not going to the strip at all and my two looks at tires were the sumitomos and good year gs 3's. I looked at the reviews and it says the sumitomo htr z's are wider but when i looked at pictures it shows the eagles are wider. Has anybody installed theses tires and have had rubbing problems on the front or rear? thanks

Eagles are way wider. Sumis run skinny. Just depends on your budget. I have sumis, they do good in the rain, but suck at the track. Goodyears seem over priced to me. I would go with some nitto NT555 or the new NT-05, which is what im buying in the next few months.

Since its lowered you will need an adjustable PHR and may have to beat on the inner fenders to keep them from scrubbing.

Goodyear Eagle GS-D3 are the way to go IMO. Very good traction wise wet or dry. But sadly not performance tire will last long. I go through a set of rear tire once a year. Good thing is that it falls right around tax season.

They are the best drag radial for street use. I still wouldnt drive in the rain with them.

I have just bolt on's on my car, and I have GS-D3's in 315's and my car smokes the tires from anything under a 40 roll....

Also, GS-D3's in 315 are the widest 315 you can get.

they perform better in wet conditions then dry

also to the OP...I DID NOT hafto touch a single thing on my car to make them fit. No BFH mod, no rolling the fenders...nothing. I lowered on eibach pro kit with KYB adjustable shocks, and im fine. It scrapes a little when I take a turn hard, or under a hard shift but nothing thats tire threatening.

I have 315 GS-D3's on my street wheels and they are great, and they look good.

I have probably 10k miles on them and there is still plenty of tread left.

I'd def go with the Goodyears over the Sumis.

I had 275 Nitto RIIs (their DOT road race tire) and 315 Nitto Drag Radials, on the front and rear of my heavily modded '92 Corvette, on ZR1 repos. I think they both come new with 6/32nds tread depth. They were awesome on the street, mediocre at the drags (two or three visits, 1/8th mile), and pretty good/sticky on the road course (only one 'day').
I drove aggressively on the street, and 80-90 MPH on the highway. They were very driveable in the rain, but this was when they still had most of their tread. I felt very safe in the rain, but I drove accordingly for a 12" wide rear tire.
I thought they were a good match for my 'daily driver' C4, and TONS better than the previous Sumitomos (same wheels, same sizes), but I did sell the car before the tires became overly worn (I'm in Iowa, so I store my car during the winter).
The 315 DRs seemed to like only about 25 PSI on the street/highway. Much more, and I think they would want to wear down the center.

I've had both Nitto and the D3's imo the D3's are the best everyday tire and the stuck out like .5" on either side of me 17x11's they were great in the rain. I don't think Sumis are same level of tire could save you some money though.

They actually aren't bad in the rain. On my old 275's, that were getting near the end of their life, I punched it at around 45 in 2nd on wet pavement, and they hooked, surpisingly. Once I got into the upper rpm's, I could feel them slipping a little, but the *** end never kicked out.

Yep - These tires perform very well, but for some reason, my rears only last half as long as the fronts...

I sell tires for a living. I currently have Sumitomos on there to just drive on, and so far they have been great, I have about 3500 miles on them and they hook fair on the street, but I haven't been to the track on them. I have some 555Rs the I put on for the track. I have sold the Eagles and they look pretty good and I haven't had any complaints yet, so they must be halfway decent.

I have a 95Z as well, i have the ZR1 replicas with sumitomo 315/35/17 in the back, about a 1" drop, havent modded the bumpstop or used a BFH, from what i can see its not going to hit anywhere, and have about a fingers width space between the tire and the closest spot on the inner fenderwell. Havent driven on them yet due to headgasket, but will have it fixed soon. I dont think ill have any rubbing issues but time will tell. Price wise you cant beat the sumitomos, got them from tire rack for $104 a piece.

I'm not sure why you are comparing a ~$100 a piece tire to a ~$320 a piece tire...
If you have no problem dropping over $320 a tire, then the GS-D3's are one of the best, if not the best, street tires you can buy. But if you are on a budget, esp since you arn't going to the strip, the Sumi's are for you. I'd go with the Sumi's in your shoes.

maybe look at some vredestein sesentas, they are great in wet and dry conditions and dont cost near as much as the GS-D3's
