mount and balance cost??
I just got my 275/40/17's for my zr1 wheels. i was told $18 per wheel for mount and ballance. they would be stick on weights and balanced on a machine with the roller, rather than in mid air.
Does this sound like a good deal? thanks.

I pay $9+ at the Goodyear tire store down the street from me and they use stick on weights. I never understood why they are so reasonable since I never bought any tires from them. The shop guys are racers though and they seem to like to talk cars, and enjoy mounting my slicks, skinnies and DR's.

When you say, "A machine with a roller", are you talking a Hunter Road Force balancer? If so, ANYTHING under $25-30 per tire is VERY reasonable, assuming the technician will truly use the machine to it's fullest capability and rotate the tires on the rims, and/or move them to other rims within the set, to get the best balance/roundness combination.

The Goodyear dealer I go to that only charges me $9+ has, I think, a Hunter 9xxx. Point is I run up to 130 mph with no balance issues, although I will say the Hoosier QTP's do get squirrley if you move the steering wheel too much. That does happen with all bias tires. FWIW,my MT DR's are extremely stable, but they don't hook like the Hoosiers.
