Default Tire choice question

What are tires that compare to Nitto NT555R2's? Same road-holding performance, same compound type (in regards to heat cycling), actual treadwear, etc.

Looking for possible alternatives. Can be "import" tires. I'm not picky on the brand as long as the performance matches the 555 R2's...

I would check out the Toyo Proxes 4's or the R888's. We sell both of them at www.treadepot.com. I dont know if you know this but Toyo is Nitto's parent company. the Proxes 4's are a great A/S tire. The R888 is a competition tire.

The R888 is more of what I'm looking for. What I'm worried about is only having them last a few weeks due to heat cycling. I would be daily driving the NT555R2's. I chose the R2's due to them being the same compound as the 555R's, which I am daily driving with them on the rear.

Does the R888 have a limited number of heat cycles (like most competition tires)? The Proxes 4 doesn't seem like it would compare to an R2 in terms of performance.

The RA-1 also looks pretty good?

I went directly to Toyo for this answer. From what they told me heat cycling this tire has no effect on it whatsoever, since the rubber is fully cured when leaving the factory. Many racers still do heat cycle the tire out of habit and they also feel it improves the durability of the tire.

Hope this information helps.

Here's a few options along the 555R2 lines. Check out the; Falken RT615, Nitto NT01 and Kumho XS. If you are wanting a Max Performance Summer tire with a serious amount of grip but better life and much better wet performance make sure you look at the Nitto NT05 as well. This is one of Nitto's newest and its nothing to shake a stick at. This tire is impressing a lot of people right now. I would not recommend heat cycling them.

ZenGx, did you ever decide on a tire? Just curious.

I decided on the NT05 or the 555RII, whichever was cheaper through a local contact of mine. Hopefully I will be getting pricing info soon so I can make a decision as to where to purchase them. The 615 seems to be outperformed by the NT05 from what the reviewers say, and I couldn't get a clear idea of the XS performance and reliability compared to other tires.
