Default Cracking BF KDWS? Anyone else?

I have some KDWS on my Z28 and have had them since 2004. They still have good tread left, about 50% id say but they are cracking on the outer sidewall. My friend once they start a tiny crack, you have to toss them, is this true?

My car gets stored outside in the winter 5 months a year with temps in the negative 40!.

Thanks
Mike

sounds dry rotted. do they hold air or are you constantly refilling them?

I had a set on my Mustang before my nitto's. They started cracking alittle after the 3rd year and I store mine in a temp. control unit! They have a great foot print but the nittos 555 ride like a dream compared to the BF's

thats normal for a tire that old. the rule of thumb is to get new tires every 5 years at the minimum

Storing outside at that low a temperature certainly doesn't help the tires. Don't you have some old "scuds" that you can put on the car for the winter?

I had a pair on my M6 car when I sold it. 6 yrs old and not cracked. But I agree about the ride ... extreme impact harshness. I really disliked them.

tires dont expire.....its not milk. if they are stored properly most manufacturers recommend no more then a 10yr shelf life just as a saftey measure. and a 5-6 yr usage life. again these are recomendations only. there is no evidence of a tire of any age failing just due to the age.
