Question How much backspace for a 17X11 with a narrowed rear, 3 inches each side????

I am getting ready to get new wheels. Going to be narrowing the rear 3 inches on each side. I want to run a 17X11 on the rear. How much backspace for the 17X11's with the rear narrowed? Will I have to run offset bushings in the lower control arms?

May also be minitubbing it if it requires it.

Any help will be appreciated. Also post pictures if you are running a narrowed rear with 17's with the specs.

Thanks,

may need to narrow the rear just a little more. Looks like most of the 17X11 with a stock width rear have 7.75 backspace.

I just want to make double sure before i put it under the knife.

remember the fact that you are not moving the wheel and tire combo's position in the wheelwell. you are just moving the axle flange on the rear inboard 3" and the center of the wheel the same distance. the 7.75" back 17x11 fits like a glove with a 315 mt dr on a stock width rear end. it is a math equation that a 3rd grader could solve. if you take 3" out of each side of the rear, take 3" out of the backspacing on each side. 7.75 - 3 = 4.75".....see, simple. narrowing the rear has absolutely nothing to do with minitubbing. too much tire section width is what requires a minitub. you will NOT need offset control arms with a normal sized 315.

Thanks for all your help. I was unaware that 3rd graders could add and subtract.

I was not aware that every 17X11 that you can buy has the 7.75 backspace and fits perfectly with a normal 315 tire. Usually read about the BFH mod and having trouble with it rubbing. I wasn't sure that they even offer a BS wheel with 4.75 backspace. Usually they are in .5 sizes. And I never would have guessed that a tire with a wide section width (315) would require a minitub.

You have been the most help by far.

I did nothing at all to fit my 315's mt's and 17x11 tt2's. no bfh, no bumpstop mods, no fenderlip mods.....nothing. and my car is lowered on sportlines.

summit lists a part number for tt2's with a 4.75" back as well as 5" and 4.5" backs.

section widths of 315's vary greatly by brand. a 315 mt doesn't require a minitub to clear at full bottom where one of those massive 315 goodyears might.

oh, and glad I could help.

Lucky You.

Did you say TT2's? I don't think I asked about them.

Guess it just depends on if it is a normal 315? Rite? Should have posted what tire I was going to run.

oh, and glad I could help.
Thanks again.

I would recommend measuring...... I did the "just subtract from the OE #" and ended up with a wheel that didn't sit in the same position as it did with the stock 10 bolt.

Wanna be safe? Measure it! Never know what may happen you order 3'' narrow it may come back 2.75

Here are my current 17x12 TT2's 5'' BS on a 2.25 narrowed rear (Each side)

Look how these tuck - 17x11 5.50 BS on same length rear

Stock Rear with Normal TT2's

BTW I did have to cut and shorten my E-brake cable bracket.

This is how tight it was on the passenger side with no cutting, Driver side had to be cut and trimmed.
