Default Polishing Wheels

So I have regular old aluminum wheels on my WS6. I want to polish my wheels out. I like chrome but polished aluminum looks good also and it would be much cheaper. So, does anybody have any suggestion?

I know I need to strip the clear off, rub on it with a rag and some mothers, and then keep polishing it. Is there any easier way? Such as like the new eastwood polishing kit thing that goes in a drill?

Will polishing by hand get to be as shiny as nice polished aluminum and chrome?

I've heard you have to keep polishing them once you do them, can you just get them done and then clear coat over them?

Anybody done this have any tips or suggestions?

I am pretty clueless, so any help would be appreciated. I'd hate to ruin my factory WS6 wheels.

Well, I might be as clueless as you but I doubt aluminum wheels come with a "clear coat" on them.

take the clear off with aircraft stripper.
for the absolute best shine you need to buff with a wheel and rouge
polishing by hand will give a decent result, I recommend Mothers BILLET!
keep up finish by occasionally polishing
or clear... which will dull the finish somewhat (have to clean off polish)

Yes they do in the case of stock WS6 wheels...

Aircraft stripper, and the eastwood kit looks nice, i'd use that to save A LOT of time IMO.

Denali, LS1iFiEd, You guys started out with polished wheels and just made them better. My wheels are just the regular satin (or whatever it is called) aluminum. Can these still be polished out by hand?

I know people polished aluminum alternator cases and intakes and stuff like this, but idk if you can do it by hand or it needs some special machining or something to do it.

It's amazing to me... about 3 years since I've been here... and did a write up on this... the question still comes up so often lol. Its easy to do in an afternoon as most have said, but you will have to polish them back up occasionally

I’m in the process of doing refinishing my rims now. I had a lot of dings and they required a lot of sanding. I stepped them to 2000 grit and have used a power ball and mothers polish but they are not even close to the shine I started out with. The rims are coming out hazy and dull, unlike the mirror finish I started with. Does anyone have any suggestions of a better polish, possibly one that has more of a cut to it??

The powerball wont work go to lowes and get mibro polish and firm polishing wheel and go to town. You can get it in the tool section
