Actually it is unsafe to run a 315/35 on a 9.5" wide wheel. The smallest width that is recommended for a 315/35 tire is 10.5".

The stock wheels are 9" wide. The Nittos in question are a true 308mm wide, although they are stamped 315s. Ideally the rim needs to be a bit wider, but they will fit and the bulge isn't too bad. I ran a couple sets over the course of 5 yrs and never had a single issue. I never had any rubbing problems either.

Yes, it isn't recommended, and they list the approved rim widths for that specific tire to be 10.5-12.5. With that said though, many, many people have ran that tire on the stock width wheels with zero issues. It does help that this particular tire runs smaller than the stated size. My SIG pic has the tires in question out back on 9" wheels.

For some reason I had the Nittos in my head. I guess it's because they are talked about often.

Which Sumitomo style tire are you going with? I'll check and see how it measures in comparison to the tire I was rambling on about

Going off the Sumitomo website, the tires your referring to are only available in 20" sizes, and only 2 choices total.

The HTR Z on the other hand, are listed in 17s in 4 sizes. The listed width are a decent amount wider than the Nittos I was referring to, and the reason myself and others used a 315 on a narrower than suggested rim to begin with was because of the tire not being as wide as stated.

With all that said, I would stick with the 275/40. They should be even cheaper anyhow.

And no, my car isn't lowered.
