Default Buy new tires for my ZR1s, or swap to a different setup?

First off, how can I find out if my staggered ZR1s are real or reps? I bought the car recently and haven't had a chance to mess with it.

I have Sumitomo HTRZs on it right now, the rears are just about bald (315s).

I love the look, the fat *** that I have going on now

But, tire selection is- well bad if I don't want DRs. My choices are Sumitomo HTRZ, Nitto 555s (will replace with these if I keep these wheels), or Goodyear F1s (which I definitely can't afford).

I don't drag my car, I don't race it either. The car is my DD for nice days but I cruise with my Fiero crew in the mountains and we push it pretty hard. I cruised with them 3 weeks ago and was satisfied with the grip on the current tires in the corners, but is there a setup that will yield more? Maybe a slightly smaller square setup?

Thank you!!

If they are real they should have GM stamped on the wheels somewhere.

My ten spokes have them and im assuming your ZR1s should too!

Thanks I'll take a look next time I mess with the car.

Any opinions on whether to keep or ditch this setup?

If you like the wheels just get new tires for them. IMO, just for nice day's and the often cruise there is nothing wrong with the Sumi's. Most people here will probably not recommend them because they don't have as much of a performance edge as other tires such as the Nitto's or Goodyears. But, the way I look at it is like this: I can buy a set of four Sumi's (2x275's and 2x315's) from Tirerack.com and have them shipped to my house, take them down and have them mounted and balanced on my wheels for less than it cost to just buy the Nitto's and thats if you find them with free shipping. Now, I DD my car and I think Sumi's work just fine. If you going from stop light to stop light or just trying to pass someone on the highway and are having traction issues you're either making ridiculous horsepower or you need to slow the F down. Simple as that. Now for canyon carving, I've read a lot of nice reviews about the Kuhmo Ecsta XS tire, but then again, it's even more expensive than the Nitto's but less than the Goodyears. And yes, if your wheel are OEM they should have GM stamped on them somewhere. I have a set of factory chrome ZR1's that came on my SS and all four of them are stamped. Well, good luck with whatever you decide.

I really appreciate the insight!

What kind of mileage are you getting out of your sumis? Thats one bad thing I read about them, a lot of people said they wore out pretty quick.

For a rear set of sumis in 315, it comes out to $380 shipped from tirerack. Where are you finding them with free shipping?

Nitto 555s in 315 are $434 shipped form discounttire.

So $55 difference in price for a pair, people seem to be very satisfied with the performance and life from the Nittos from what I'm seeing.

Get the Nittos and be done with it. I went through a period where I had 4 shitty worn out mismatched tires on my car, god it was hell. I now have NT555s all the way around (275 fronts, 315 rears) and they are a GREAT tire. No complaints at all, they're worth every penny. Quiet, comfortable ride, excellent treadlife, handle well, good traction.

http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/catalog/17--1/

They're a sponsor here and I buy everything from them. Always have great prices.

2 x 315 NT555's = $467

2 x 275 NT555's = $346

Free shipping = $813

If it's what you're looking for, the price is hard to beat. Also, if you call and talk to Mike there, and tell him you found them cheaper he will usually look up the website you found them cheaper at and price match and still free shipping. Heck, I was set on getting another set of Sumi's because mine are worn out (30k+ miles though) but to hell with it, NT555's here I come.

DTD 's a sponsor.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...itTireSizes.do
Nitto NT 555, 275/40/17, $156.00 ea.
Nitto NT 555, 315/35/17, $216.77 ea.

Total: $745.54 shipped

If you want a wider 315/35/17s then get the Kumho Ecsta XS , there $254 each so that would change your total to *$820 and they have a 180 wear rating instead of the 300 wear rating of the NT555 315s.

*If you still stick with the Nitto NT 555 275/40/17s up front.

The guys at WS6stores are great guys, but over at discount tire direct (also a sponsor)...

2x 315/35/17 555's = $432

2x 275/40/17 555's = $302

Free shipping also, = $734 (plus change)

I thought at one point in time SLP offered a ZR1 that was an 11" but with like a 36mm offset that was stamped GM. I may be wrong but it's just something I thought I remember reading or seeing. Mine are all factory and they are 17x9.

I'm almost positive the C4 ZR1's ran a 17x11 with a 315 tire on the back?

Thanks for the responses guys. Right now the car has $1000 in body work to be addressed without paint, and the starter died on the morning I was supposed to bring it to the shop- on top of that my DD started squealing and knocking for a few minutes so I am a little for the time being.

I fixed my DD, now just need to get the starter off a local guy and deal with getting her running. Can't wait to be fighting with the Y-pipe replacing it.

17 x 11 ZR1 backspacing is 36mm
17 x 11 Grandsport backspacing is 50mm
I bought my rear pair of OE wheels with the 50mm grandsport backspacing.
No problems at all on my WS6. Didn't even have to roll the inner fender lips.

There is nothing wrong with OE wheels reproductions and chances are if you have 17x11 chrome ZR1s that is where they came from.

I went thru 2 sets of Sumi 315s and only got about 6000 miles out of each set running till smooth (I couldn't believe they were that soft, so I bought them again). And they really weren't very sticky.

I now have about 9000 miles on some Nitto 555 back tires and I am down to the wear bars. My advice is buy the Nittos but if you really want some mileage go to 9.5s all around and rotate them.

I just don't understand how you guys get suck horrible mileage out of your tires. I put a little over 30k miles on a set of Sumi's and at that mileage I had just worn them to the bars. I don't get it.

Quick Reply: Buy new tires for my ZR1s, or swap to a different setup?
