Default Peeling chrome 10 spokes not holding air... any advice?

The chrome off of my 10 spokes is starting to peel and they dont hold air very well anymore because the chrome is coming off from the tire is suppose to seat (was told by tire shop). Has anybody tried sanding that area and getting rid of all the chrome around the seat so it will hold air again?

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Lee

Just run a grinder around the bead and use some bead sealer

on my friends car we had to take an angle grinder with a wire wheel to the inside bead of all his wheels to get them to hold air.

That is exactly what i plan on doing. Only problem is, I'm not 100% sure where the bead is.

I had this problem on a set of chrome zr1's. Ran the wirewheel around the inside lip to knock off any flakes. Once you get the tire off it should be pretty evident where the problem areas are. If you feel the need, spray a little bit of clear around the lip to slow down further flaking.

If you can't find exactly where it's leaking, put some soapy water around the bead and air the tire up full to where it's leaking.

Here's where I did mine...

^correct, as far as the peeling I would take a different approach rather than spraying it with clear again, I have seen people strip the peeling clear completely and then polish the wheels. Harder to keep clean though...

That's another option. But trying to polish out chrome wheels is a can of worms waiting to be opened.

OP , it sucks your chrome is starting to peel, but all you can do now (short of having them rechromed) is to stop the peeling in its tracks and try your best to prevent further peeling.

Shouldn't be a big deal to take care of it. It's just one of those pesky problems but you'll be back on the road in no time.

That problem is very common on GM wheels. Angle grinder with a 3M scotch brite pad to clean the bead off and use bead sealer.

It's not just GM. My GT had only 5,000 miles on it and one of the rims (polished aluminum) wouldn't hold the air anymore. Same with an aluminum wheel on my old '95 911. Both were 'grinded out' and no issues since. Very common on all makes.
