Default No more Goodyear tires for our 16" F-bodies

Not that too many care on here but for those few owners that like to keep their F-bodies 'stock' right down to the Goodyear brand tires, I just noticed that TireRack has a final closeout on the Goodyear GS-D3 in the stock 245/50/16 size. No other Goodyear options that I see. I was thinking of snagging another set but they probably would get too old just sitting, and I'm two years away most likely from needing them. The date codes are probably getting old on the new ones as well.
Looks like there are only 5 choices left now in any brand, period! At least the quality is still good with Michelin and BFG.

At least the GS-D3 tire is a really good tire. The hard cupping GSC's were absolute trash.

Consumer Reports has the only recommended UHP tire from Goodyear is the Eagle F1 Asymmetric with an 82 of 100. But I don't think it's available in 16", but there are some 17" ones... Unless you go to the A/S version.

I put the Eagle F-1 on my bird, but those were 235/55/16 but were an excellent tire. I have the hankook ventus (h rated) currently on my Ta. Did it in a pinch as I plan on new wheels anyways. they actually seem to perform better than the z rated GSC i had on there. Pomps argued about putting them on as they were not z rated and not to spec, but I'll tell ya, I like'em better...
I know how ya feel, i was bummed when they stopped makin gatorbacks too...

Does anyone know why they're being discontinued?

Probably just not enough sales in the 16" size. This site alone gives an indication of how few owners keep their 'stock' size, never mind it being a Goodyear. At $200+ per tire, just not enough business. I sure was a loyal customer though. These GS-D3 tires are as good as it gets IMO. Man, I am going to enjoy every last mile out of these tires for the next two years or so. I hope to anyway. Then I'll probably go with the Michelin PS if still made. I had them on a 911 and they were equally as impressive. I was just hoping to keep the 'stock' Goodyear tire thing going since every other component of my T/A is like that, right down to the Delco battery. I had to do it for my Aerocoupe too last year. No more Goodyear 'white lettered' tires. I had to get Firestones.

LT4vert, I wasn't thrilled with the original GS-C either and experienced the same 'cupping' issue despite religious air pressure checks. It didn't matter. No problems with the GS-D3.

The GS-D3 has been discontinued in most sizes for well over a year now. They just are not making anything to replace it in this size.

I would recommend going with the BFG G Force Sport Comp2. Made in the USA and great performance! Classic Muscle Car brand.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that it was discontinued in other sizes too. Yes, the BFG is certainly a good choice. They came on my GT and were fine until the rubber started getting hard this past winter, after 6 years elapsed. Lots of tread left but the rubber and 'date code' said 'time to replace'. I would have bought another set but went with the Goodyear Eagle GT High Performance A/S instead. Not quite GS-D3 capable but I've been very pleased.

Question

What kind of tread life can be expected with these? There is no treadlife warranty on these, unlike the 30k Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Use the treadwear rating as a guide but even then it is meaningless if you drive the car real hard. My GS D3 tires would normally last 20,000 miles but I have close to 25,000 miles now with a lot of tread left. I am real easy on the car with just occasional spirited driving. On the other hand I could easily see these same tires being burned up in 10,000 miles if the driver was pedal to the floor at every red light. There was actually someone that complained about just getting 8,000 miles on a set. Duh, stop burning rubber 5 times a day.
