Default Need advice on buying first set of dr's

Hi everybody! looking for some advice on buying my first set of dr's. I was going to buy new drag rims and tires for my 98z but have some other things I want to do to my cars so for sake of cost think im going to just go with a set of new rear tires. car has 18 x 9.5 aza rims on it which are running 275/40/zr18's now. The car has a moser 9" in it with currently 4.30 gears which willl be getting changed to 3.90's probably after summer (car is an a4). The car is not my dd and never gets driven in the rain. has had about 10,xxx miles on it in the last 6 years. I rarely drive it but like to take it out on the weekends and the occasional cruise or strip event and have some fun with it. Im more concerned with sticking than the longjevity of the tires as far as them lasting 10k + miles since I dont dd the car. I like the mt et street 1's and they have nothing but good reviews but cant find them in 18's. The other 2 ive seen the most are the mt et street 2's which are only available in 265/40/18 (which im concerned may be to skinny) and 305/45/18 which im concerned may be to wide. not looking to pull out the bfh and am not into tires sticking out extremely far. the nittos dont have the best reputation for sticking but the nt05's are available in a direct replacement size of 275/40/18 along with many other more friendly 18" options.Looking for some opinions and advice before i drop $400-$500 on 2 tires

As you've already seen and stated, your drag radial options are pretty limited on a 18 x 9.5 wheel. The Nitto NT-05 in 275/40R18 is already at the high end of your price range, and drag tires on 18" wheels tend to be quite expensive.
You could consider these:

As you can see, those are quite a bit more expensive, and are 28" tall, which might pose a fitment problem depending on how much your car is lowered.
Those Nittos might just be your best (and only) option for what you want to do.

car is not lowered, I dont think size wise I would have an issue with the m&h and they are suppose to be very sticky tires but with the gearing at 3.90 or the current 4.30 with a 4 speed auto I think the rpms are going to be extremely high. I do drive it on the street, just not every day and I dont want to make it anymore undriveable than it currently is.

I did make a mistake though in my original post, looking at drag radials so im looking at the Nt05R's NOT the nt05 nittos. They are available in the 285/40/18 size instead of the 275 which i actualy prefer and in total are still only 27.09" in diameter which is only about a 1/2" larger than what im currently running on the car. ive found them as cheap as $288 each which isnt cheap but in comparison im probably looking around $1200 for a full set of racestars and mt et streets in 15".

are thy any other options out there for DR's in the size area im looking at that are sticky?

I've been using the NT05R's for the last three summers and find they are nice and sticky. I think you will like them. I'm running the 315/35/17.

i love my 28 inch nitto drs, have had 3 sets now, long tread life, and unless you making huge power they hold pretty well, just take a solid burnout, plus there great in the rain ( got caught up inte rain a few times)
