Default Largest brakes that fit under ten spokes

Whats the largest brake setup I can fit under my OEM 10 spokes?

Will a CTS-V, 5th Gen, or C6 fit?

Basic rule of thumb for aluminum wheels is the rotor diameter needs to be 4 inches smaller that the wheel diameter.

17 inch wheel 13 inch rotor
16 inch wheel 12 inch rotor

There might be wheels that this does not work with but I have never had a problem using this rule.

Good luck

C5 would fit... maybe even the Baer Track4, which is a nice upgrade vs the C5/C6 caliper. It's a 4-piston that isn't as big as the Brembos used for the 5th Gen/CTS-V and will fit under a 17" with decent spoke clearance.

Is the C5 really an upgrade over stock LS1 brakes?

I know they are different but is it noticeable?

I don't think so.

I'd do the Baer kit or just get better pads for the stock brakes.

C5 only uses a larger rotor.. still uses the same caliper

I really wanted the CTSV setup but I dont really wanna change my 10 spokes out.

The caliper is marginally different.
Both C5 and C6 front calipers are pressure-cast (instead of gravity-cast) and have extra stiffening ribs, so they are stronger and stiffer.
C6 calipers have extra material over C5 calipers, and are reported to be roughly 10% stiffer than C5 calipers.
Also, the pistons are a touch smaller on both C5 and C6 calipers (40.5mm versus 43mm), which helps with feel and modulation.

All of that translates to better thermal properties on a road course. On the street, there is almost no difference in stopping power. Then again, the CTS-V just handles more heat even better, but may not produce better stopping distances either (until you get into the triple digits where heat is a problem even on one stop).

Tires and pad compound still make the most difference.

There's a guy on the internet that fit the 4 piston cts-v brakes and a 14" rotor on his 17" wheel. Grinder on his calipers a little bit, used a spacer and longer wheel studs and they fit perfect.

Nate....you can get the V's to work WITH some work as mentioned above....you're handy enough to pull it off. If you're not going to pony up for the 18s, I probably wouldn't do it if you're looking for plug'n'play. C5 costs (iirc) are in the same ballpark as strategically shopped V package.

I have Willwood SL6 with a 13 inch rotor, fits with 10 spokes only a tiny spacer is needed for spoke to caliper clearance.

You can only fit the c5/c6 brakes under 10 spokes. Ive tried fitting 10 spokes under my cts-v brakes and they wont fit. my SS/ZR1 wheels do fit. The issue with the 10 spokes is that inside the wheel barrel closest to the spokes, it starts to shrink and wont allow you to run them. Unless you run a 1" spacer. Ive got a 15mm hub centric spacer on my wheels and they sit flush with the fender.

I drool over the cars that have a wheel full of brakes. Just looks awesome.

Your kit turned out awesome OVRKILL but you have larger wheels. Want to try a 10 spoke on ? lol

Are you using a 14" rotor with the V calipers, if so, interesting. I only mention because I remember a thread quite awhile ago where someone used a 13" rotor with the V calipers and OEM SS/ZR1 wheels.

I'm using 14" rotors from a Camaro SS. Ther was a guy trying to fab a kit/bracket with the use of 13" C5 rotors but that dissapered.

I dont want to do any grinding so Ill just stick with what I have.

Can the stock LS brakes use the C5/ any larger rotor?

If your just wanting better performance, a good blank 98-02 rotor, carbontech 1521 pads and braided lines has worked so well for me that upgrading to something like a v front brake set up would be purely for cosmetic purposes. You should not have a problem though swapping to something like a c6 z51 front rotor/caliper which is 13.4". No reason at all to upgrade the rears, they are too much for the car as is.
