315's just for looks only?
Is it true that 315 tires in the back are more for looks then actual performance? lets say i got 275's and another guy has the same exact tire but in a 315, will there be any difference in traction/handling ect?

most likely, always depends on the brand, but there's more surface area for the tire to grip the road on, so yeah, i'd say that the 315 would get more traction, I mean, look at todays drag cars, the wider the tire is, more likely, the more power they're holding (theoretically speaking of course)

The 315 *might* get a little more traction, but it also weighs more. I'd be willing to bet that a car that hooks on 315 DR's could go just as fast on 275 DR's.
I bet some would argue that they hurt handling performance due to the bigger size in the back.
With all that said.. 315's look killer on the back of our cars

Something to remember as far as striaght line traction, the car will weigh about the same the same with either 275/40/17's as it does with 315/40/17's, very little overall wieght difference. BUT, the contact area of the 315 is greater than the 275, so you lb's per sq inch decreases with the 315 (same wiegh/large number), so some will argue that your traction decreases with a 315 because there is less wiegh pushing the tire against the pavement.
As mentioned by others above, the 315's are THE look for our cars. I can't wait!! I had some on the rear of my last 1998 TA, and they look awesome!

I am a firm beliver, the more contact patch you put down on the road the better. Such a firm beliver that I will be getting a mini tub on a possible 345s sitting on some 15 inch rims. We will see if that hooks...

Ive heard 315s kill mph on the quater mile. As for traction Ive always thought in my own mind, if there is less surface area of a tire there would be more pressure per square inch like ramair said, thus better traction because more weight on a tire will cause it to hook better. But if this is true the one could say an ls1 on 215s would hook like a dream...not so. I think for every car there is a a certain point where going wider wont make it hook any better and start to cause some sort of parasitic loss.

For drag use, anything more than what is needed to hook the car is going to slow you down. For handling use, you can't get enough tire under these cars (or any car), but the 315 is pretty close. So, it depends on your use. If you hook on a 275, you will probably be slower on a 315, or due to rotating weight, or you may see your 60 foot times drop and your 1/4 stay the same (quicker 60 with more grip, slower the rest of the way down due to air drag, tire drag and rotating weight). So, roadrace/autocrossers, put them on there. Drag racers, only you can decide what you need.

which stock rims are heavier?....98-00 or 01-02?...on the WS6 of course?.....i want to get some drag radials (unless some1's tred the 275/40 17 Mickey T's adn would liek to tell me how they hook?) on stock rims...i want the lighter ones....im inquiring TTII's with the 315's out back....in the future i will have power for those needs and the rear end for the biggggggg SLICKS...so what would you say...just get the TTII's with dry wet....get the stocker with DR's or get the older style stockers with DR's....and get slicks for the ultimate track performance
i wanna have the TTII's be my all around tire...hook well street/strip....do good in water...and take the corners like its on rails...(with suspension of course)

My car holds so much tighter now with 17x11's and 315's, compared to 17x9's and 275's. I can floor it around a corner and not get loose with the 315 Nitto DR's. FLOOR IT!! With 380 rwhp. They hook.
