People have run 275 width tires on 8"rims, but I wouldn't recommend it.
The MTs will have the best hook/shortest life. The Nittos will have the worst hook/longest life. The BFGs don't hook much better than the Nittos and don't last much longer than the MTs.

i have nittos and so do all of my friends and we wont buy anything else. They hook great. I leave the line at 3500 and the barley turn. Plus you can get 10k out of them. BFGs hook good when they are bald, which is in like 2000 miles. I have not seen MTs on a car but i do know that they have a 0 treadwear rating which means they will hook great but will last a week. just my .02

I have used all and installed all on everything from a stock mustang to a turboed firehawk and have this to say.
Nitto - Great for everyday driving. Grips very well after warmed up (burnout). Last very long, had 12,000 on a pair with around 50-60 runs at the track and they were still in great condition. I actually sold them and the guy is still running them on his mustang.
BFG - Hook very good. Grips with little warm up. DO NOT DO BURNOUTS WITH THESE TIRES!!!! It will ruin them faster than ever. I did one burnout in a pair and automatically noticed chunks missing out of them. Only last around 5-7,000 miles on everyday driving. Good for weekend cars that will not be driven a lot.
M/T - One of the best hooking drag radials I have ever seen. Launched with a 150 shot of nitrous and no spin at all. VERY sticky compound and require not heating whatsoever. Right after I installed them I pulled out on the street hit the nitrous and it just hooked and was off. VERY nice tire. Have not worn out these yet. Still brand new. Just the way they are designed and the way they feel, I will be lucky to get 5,000 miles out of them. If you get these, better have a 2nd set of rims so you do not have to run them all the time.
Price wise, M/T are the most expensive. BFG and Nitto are around the same price, it really just depends who you talk to and where you get them.
Everyday Driver - Nitto
Weekend racer - BFG

If it is everyday driver I would go with the Nittos. BFGs don't hook for anything in wet conditions. No experience with the M/Ts, but have heard they grip like a ****.

They don't last very long ( my guess being 2-5k), but some guy just snapped a 12 bolt on em.

I used to run nittos (with bolt ons) and loved them until I upped the power/stall. Now I will only run a m/t drag radials, even though my car is a daily driver. I just sold a set with 4500 miles on them and they still had about 30-40% tread. I don't see why one couldn't get 6,000-7,000 miles out of them.

Well if you want a really sticky tire I would go with the new M/T Street Radial. I had them on my old camaro and they hook HARD. Just dont expect to go over 40mph in the rain.
For a daily driver I would suggest nittos. Good price, hook decent, and decent mileage out of em
