Default 275/40/17 on a 8" rim?

It's time to get some tires(fronts are gone) they are 245/45/17 on a 17x8 rim. My rear tires are in great shape and are 275/40/17 on a 17x10 rim. Could I put the 275/40/17's on the 17x8's and buy some 315/35/17's for thw 17x10's??

Your kidding right. DO NOT put 275's on a 8" wheels. That puts a lot more stress where the tire and wheel meet. Not to mention they bludge and will not ware even. Stick to the 245's to be safe. IT IS NOT SAFE to put a 275 on a 8" ment for a 245. Also 315 is to big for a 10". Go with a 295 at the biggest. To correctly run a 315" you realy need a 11" wheel.

275/40-17 are meant to be properly mounted on 17x9 to 17x11 wheels.
I would not put it on a 17x8 rim.
same thing goes for the 315... put it on a 11" wide minimum.

i had 315's on my 17x10's with no problems, but would not put a 275 on a 8" rim. I'm sure many shops would give you grief not wanting to do that one.

If you INSIST on doing this, go with Nittos. They are known to be a little narrower than other tires. 8.5" would be a stretch but at 8", you really are pushing the limit.

I wasn't insisting on anything I was just asking a question. Just looking at them I can tell you that the 245/45/17's look too narrow on the 8" rim(rim sticks out past tire) and the same thing goes for the 275/40/17's on the 10"rims. I was just hoping that I could put the 275's up front and only have to buy rear tires instead of all 4. Oh well I guess I will have to live with the 275's on the rear and buy some 255's for the front for now.
Thanks for your input guys.
