Default Nitto vs. Toyo Opinions welcomed

I have been diligently working on the 00 Camaro convertible. It just came out of the paint shop last week to have the front nose cleaned up. It is raining cat'n'dogs here in New Hampshire and I think it will continue for another week.

There's another thread that said Toyo discontinued the T-1S product but a dealer has them just down the street. So here's the question.

What tires would you like on this set up? (Remeber it's a convertible w/no roll bar so intense corner carving is out. Not that I want junk, but I want to keep it sane.)

2000 Camaro Convertible M6
Lowered 1.5 w/Eibach
BMR panhard and trailing arms
Hotchkis strut brace
SLP bolt-on subfrsme connectors
Z06 replica wheels 17x9.5 /54mm (front and back)

General purpose Nitto NT555?
Good handling NT555R II?
Toyo T-1S?

I have a quote for $1650 wheels and NT555, $1750 for wheels and T-1S's.

What do you think? Alternatives?

Honestly those prices seem a bit high. I'd deffo check w/ some online places or w/ Todd. If I had to choose between those tires I'd go w/ the Nitto 555, the Toyo's are decent tires but if something happens later and you need to get just 1 new tire for some reason, you prolly won't be able to find a T-1S. The 555rII's are great handling tires but they just don't last long enough to be used as a street tire IMHO. Plus don't count out your very for handling, I have shown a few nay sayers just what a "floppy convertable" is capable of at some AutoX's. Another tire you may want to consider is the Kumho Ecsta MX it will out handle both of the others and should cost about the same if not less.

That quoet is for wheels and tire right? If so then that price is not bad at all depending on what wheels you are going with.

Yes. The price included Z06 replica wheels 17x9.5 / 54mm. One point of clarification. The $1650 Nitto price was for standard, NT555's not the better NT555RII.

How would you rate the expected mileage I'd get out of set for each of them?

1. Nitto NT555
2. Nitto NT555RII
3. Toyo T-1S

mileage guess based on normal driving:

555-25-30k
555RII-10-15k
T-1S-25-30k

just a guess on my part, I've had my 555's on for about 20k now and they have quite a bit of life left and I have a few track passes and a couple of autocrosses too.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. I'm leaning towards the Toyo T-1S's over the standard Nitto NT-555s. This is based solely on tread design. The T-1S's look more aggressive for no-rain driving. This is a second car so there's no reason to pull it out an crappy days.

Yet, I look at the NT555s and they appear to be able to give longer wear, (deeper tread?) and better water movement. (Caught in a storm.)

Obviously driving habits change to the road conditions but maybe I'd feel better if Deb was on those Nittos over the Toyos.

No what I mean?

Rick. (Nothing is simple.)

From my experience the 555's offer more dry grip than the T-1S's and wet traction has been above average on mine, a little wider than yours (285 18's) but I really like them.

Yeah, I started the thread about the Toyo's. If you can find them go with them, I have heard nothing but good things about them. The Nitto 555's aren't bad either but the Toyo's are very good tires. The ones that are replacing them look to be atleast $20 more a tire!!!

Maybe it was a good thing though, couldn't find the Toyo's so I bought some BF Goodrich KDW 2's.....they are some bad *** tires.
