Default WTF is up with my MT drag radials??

i did one 3-5 second burnout to heat em up on the street, before i raced my friend, drove on em for 1 DAY, and now look at em? WTF ??? They both look like that, the road was smooth (no rocks, stones, nothing!) I used to have BFG DR's, and they never looked like that! what happened to these tires? are they defective?

Some of that "textured look" is normal for a soft compound tire, but I've never seen one that was that bad!!

I went through 2 sets last year before i caught on...... They only lasted me a month a peice. Bad idea to run them all the time (street-strip)..... On the bright side those tires hook hard even on the road Lets go street racing....

Damn, I havn't seen a pair like that yet. They usually get scuffed up but those babies are shredded. It's doesn't look like your using the whole tire, how much pressure was in them? Might have been just because you did a dry pavement burnout.

yes, i noticed there was a direction arrow on them, they were mounted correctly. running about 28psi cold. i didnt wanna go too crazy, since i had the stock 10bolt still (which broke on street tires at the track anyway!) I'll just use whats left of them for the track, and then get BFG DR's. I didnt have a problem with the BFGs before, but everyone was preaching to me about how good these MT tires were. Im sure not all of the MTs are like that, and im sure not 100% of their users are satisfied. Ive done dry burnouts before a street race on ET streets and they never got that torn up. they still look smooth.

That's way to much pressure. You can see how fast the centers are wearing. So the high pressure combined with a dry burnout is what probrably gave you that effect. I get about 20-30 passes out of a pair doing big nasty burnouts.

I have a set as well and they looked similar to yours after my first time at the track, they didn't hook that well either.

I drove on them for a week and they smoothed out and started looking normal again. Then I went to the track again and did a 5 second burnout and they hooked like a ****, and they never looked shredded again, there just getting broke in don't do more than a 5 second burnout or they will get to hot and not hook as well.

Thank you! next time i go to the track, i am definately dropping pressure down and riding on them for a lil while, maybe it will get rid of that roughness!! and the only hard time they will see is at the track!! maybe get like 10 passes out of em??

I'm having much better luck with mine.
They have been on the car since 3/17 have 6 track passes (18psi) all with 2nd gear burnouts out of the water box and I daily drive it 50miles (25psi)a day to and from work with a few clutch dumps on dry pavement (no power braking burnouts on dry pavement) and they are still not down to the wear bars. As far for hooking up 5k rpm clutch dumps and dead hook on the track.

My MT 255 50 16s made like 20 passes at the track last season with 16 psi. Like I said the second time at the track after I did a 5 second burnout and they dead hooked. On my third race of the night I tried doing a burnout and all I could do is push the front end of the car off the track, I couldn't even spin the tires, they got so stickey that my hand was sticking to them like bubblegum. The cars were cycling through so fast on the 1/8 th. track that I didn't even have to do anymore burnouts, they continued to stay stickey.

I have 2000 miles and 20 passes on them and there's still grooves in the tread, I'm running them again this season. My car is not a daily driver though, it gets driven from June to September.
