Question Ordering 17" x 9" ZR1 Chrome from SLP today: Tire suggestions for max. traction on..

I am ordering chrome ZR1 17" x 9" wheels for my 1999 Z28 today with bowtie center caps.

I have a few questions:

I am correct that these wheels just bolt up without spacers because they are just SS wheels?

Is the BF Goodrich KD still the best thing going for maximum road grip (I don't drive the Z in the rain)? Other tire suggestions?

Nice to see a lot of the guys still hang out here.
I am just glad they still have the old skool theme here...

go with drag radials for traction, since you wont be rain driving, go with a BFG drag, or the MT et streets (best of the two), but dont expect to get more than around 6k miles out of the et streets

I am looking more for a BFG KD type tire than a drag radial.

Do you like them? I have KDW's on my Z now (I have chrome 16" stockers). Good tire but I want a little more.

I believe I will go with the KD 275/40R17 for my new 17 x 9's.

I had 275 kdw's and they didnt get nearly as much traction as the firehawk wide ovals. I love those tires. I threw the kdw's on the front and they grab like crazy on corners.

Please tell me you didn't already order from SLP.

They overcharge a ton for their stuff. You can get better quality replicas for much cheaper. Our sponsor, Tomzwheels.com, has 3 kinds of replicas that would work great. I personally am going to order mine from AFSwheels.com because their replicas are known to be the lightest and strongest on the market, plus their chrome holds up well.

Question

Hey guys. I appreciate the concern about where I purchase my wheels. In fact, few here dislike SLP more than I do. I have been banned from their forums and ran into the ground by a few of the jerks that run it (or at least did in the day not sure who does what there now because I could care less).

What was their deal never selling SS hoods unless you had a VIN # anyway?

However, they are ordered and on their way.

I am trying to decide on a great set of tires. I am surprised so many are running KDW's. I would think the KD (without the W) would be a well known tire but it seems no one here runs them?

I am up for any serious tire suggestions you have. I want to get a set ordered so I can enjoy my wheels asap.

So, 275/40R17 for my 17x9's?

BFGoodrich KD????

Since the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 and Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 don't come in 275/40-17, I think you have an easy choice of going with the KDs. As far as dry performance goes, nothing touches those three tires.

KDWs are so far an awesome front tire for me. R2u0n0n3er runs them on his SS and he drag races on them and also autocrosses on them. He had 2 extra tires and I put them on the front of my car. I don't push my car too hard in the corners right now because I don't know well 555R nittos would hold.

i would look into some bfg g-force drag radials. got a set on both my cars. on my ls1 z28 they are perfect. when you get em hot they can hook well enough to break a rearend. theres a few cars that have done sub 1.6 60' foots on em. if you want an idea what they look like look in my sig link at the 72 camaro.

275/40R17 BFG G-Force KD's. I love them. They are like glue in dry applications. Wet.....well, you have to take it easy with any tire. Snow............no f'n way. I got caught one night with about a 1/4" of snow. I almost parked and just walked home. BFG's website highly recommends no frozen water. Seriously, I scare people showing them the capabilities of these tires.

I put Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 on my TA last weekend. I was trying to decide between the KD's and PS2's. I can only speak of the PS2's but they changed the entire ride and grip on my car like never before.

They stick, their quiet (or is that the GMMG)? and they transformed my ride for the best. A tad more $$ then the KD's but worth keeping them in mind...

I would still love to drive a ride with KD's for comparison.. Let us know how it goes...

UPDATE: Everything is one the car and the KD's make the KDW's seem like skinnies.

I am pleased.

I wondered when I was going to see a vote for the GS-D3. They are really really good tires. Wet and dry. I second the above.
