Default Best STICKY winter tire

Ok, well summer's over and the 4400 stall and ET Streets just won't cut it this winter. I drive down and up a huge *** hill (more like a 2-3mile winding mountain road) every day. My car already hydroplanes at 30mph in the rain and I can't imagine what it'll be like when it snows. What is the stickiest winter tire? What about the 2nd and 3rd stickiest tire? I am not really needing ET Street hookups right now, just something that won't throw me off the road at 50mph when I stomp it. I don't care if it chirps at 40 or 50, but I also want rain/snow drivability. Thanks

Remember you're not going to be able to get any sort of traction (even with a drag radial) when the pavement temps drop to winter temps. Even the "stickiest street tire", whatever that may be, is not going to grip for **** when it's 30 degrees outside. You don't see that much snow in Okla do you? Regardless, you could probably get away with pretty much any street tire with decent tread depth.

I think you are asking a bit much here. When your safety is on the line, I would go with the best winter tire money can buy on a cheap set of wheels that you don't care about getting mucked up.

To me it sounds a bit ridiculous that you want a high performance tire yet are worried about hydroplaning on water, sliding on ice and flying off a mountain road in 0 deg weather...

But that's my .02

Go with Eagle F1 D3 GS. This is a great tire.

I am by no means wanting drag slick performance. I even said, I don't care if the tires chirp at 30-40mph and I specified I'd like good wet/snow weather. I am not wanting amazing street performance, just the best performing winter tire. I will check out those Eagle F1s.

And jmm98LS1, no, we don't get that much snow. But, since we don't we are not prepare at all. I live in a rural area and 2 inches of snow can have the town roads down for over a week!

Drove 2 camaros in alaska for the past 4 winters, no accidents, no being stuck, or any trouble. Drive slow! And sorry but if you are for sure going to get snow, buy 4 studded tires. 225/55 coppers are one hell of a snow tire.

I can't help myself on this one..... Get 4 Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. They're definitely "top shelf". The size you need depends on what type of 4x4 you're putting them on...which is what you really need for a winter vehicle.

(Yes, I live in the snow belt.)

I only want tire opinions. That is all. What are the tire requirements...?
-Traction at 50mph on D-R-Y, straight pavement.
-Not hydroplaning down a hill at 20-30mph on wet roads.
-Less than $200 a tire.

Do not post back in this thread if you are not going to reccomend a tire. It is and not related to the question I asked.

Default Tires

Contact Discount Tire and ask about the cheapest winter type tire that fits.

I believe they now have a Blizzack performance tire out. I would take a look at those.

He is going to have a problem with the power and the stall, but I suggest Avon M550s (in stock 245/50 16) if it will never see any snow, just rain and cold temps. If it will definitely see snow, Nokian RSis in 215/60 16 on 16x7 steel V-6 wheels. Sorry, but these things make everyone's beloved Blizzaks look like they are going backwards and sideways in the snow!!
BTW; NONE of the above is cheap, but less than $200.00/tire.

Default Goodyear GSD3

Can't beat the Goodyear GSD3 tire. Nothing but rave reviews from summer to winter driving. Both Tire Rack and Discount Tire have them for around $160 per tire the last time I looked. If for any reason you do not want Goodyear, the Bridgestones are excellent too. Good Luck!

Agree that it is one of the best summer/fall/spring tires (wet or dry), but it ain't gonna be worth $h!t when the temps (dry) fall to 40 deg. or less.
Let alone even an 1/8" of actual snow!

I've used KDWS on my SS and they are really good in the snow. I live in Illinois and snow is as common in the winter as **** in the toilet.

I've had Pirrelli P Zero Nero M+S(mud and snow) and they hook suprisingly well for a normal everyday tire, not to mention an all season tire.
