What are better for street and strip? not just at the track. and remember driving in the rain is going to happen sometimes... If you have experience, please post.

You cant go wrong with either tire on the track. But rain should be avoided at all costs.

If you are going to drive in rain, then Nitto is really the only logical choice.

Nitto is a decent all around tire and you wont die if it rains out. And they will last 10k miles, you might get 3k out of m/t hoosier if your lucky.

Good luck with the hoosiers and in the rain. They are as close to a DOT slick you can get and you have to pull over if it rains.

MT you can drive in the rain, but at a slow speed.

Nittos can hook with a decent burn out and will be better over all in the rain.

Get a pair of Nitto 555Rs for street use, and an extra pair of wheels to run hoosiers or MT's on to swap for the track/street action. I'd run the hoosiers between the two, they hook better on the street than the MTs.

I drove on my hoosier qtp's once in the rain, wasnt much fun, probly wouldnt be much difference with those 2 radials. Like said, get an extra set of wheels and mount them, they'll last alot longer too.

I personally wouldn't have either of those on my car in the rain. I would have them on a spare set of wheels and throw them on when I'm about to go to the track.

Another vote for Nittos. They're good on the street even in the rain and awesome at the track.

I disagree. They may work for you on stockish power, but any more than that and they won't be consistent for the OP, look at his sig.
You'll have much better luck with the MTs or Hoosiers at the track over the nittos with what you listed in your sig. 400 rwhp is pretty much the upper threshold of what the nittos can hook. Best I did on nittos with this power level was a 1.78 60'. That was once out of about a dozen mid 1.8 60's. The same car on 255/50 mickeys mounted on stock 16" wheels cut consistent 1.70 60s, very stockish suspension, 3500 TCI stall and 3.42 gearing with the magic stick 3 cam don't mix well

As far as I know, the Hoosier's are slicks with a couple of lines around them. Probably the Nitto's would be best in the rain. Possibly you could find the Mickey Thompson in your size with the alternate tread pattern? Also, take a look at the BFG's or M&H's?

I think you might have a point about the difference in power. If you've got some cash, get an extra set of rims and put some Hoosiers on them for racing. A friend of mine has a 99 Z28 that does mid 11's in the 1/4 and he uses Hoosier DOT slicks and gets mid 1.6s 60' times consistently.

so far it looks like the MT's are winning. The hoosiers do look like a slick with lines in the tread to make them DOT approved... well they both do

We need more options in the poll. If he doesn't want a slick tire, there is only one obvious choice listed. Fwiw. I have a set of the Hoosiers, I just didn't know if they had come up with another tread design in the last year or so.
