Camaro RS Z28 Owned by Paul Walker Set to Be Sold at Auction
Believed to be one of Paul Walker’s last projects, this weathered 1969 Camaro RS Z28 is a pretty sweet machine on its own accord.
Still beloved by car enthusiasts years after his untimely death, actor and all-around automotive fan Paul Walker lives on not only via the movies he appeared in, but also, the vehicles that he owned and drove. We’ve seen a number of those vehicles sold at auction over the years, whether they be movie stars themselves or just custom builds from Walker’s own collection, and now, yet another interesting example is going up for grabs at Mecum’s Monterey auction on August 15-17 – this 1969 Camaro RS Z28.
According to Mecum, this heavily-patina’d 1969 Camaro RS Z28 is believed to be one of the very last projects from both Walker and Roger Rodas, who was his friend that also perished in the crash that took Walker’s life years ago. However, in its current state, this is a numbers-matching example that has a pretty cool history. In fact, after it was sold new by Martens Chevrolet of Reedley, California, the Camaro was purchased by famed collector Merle Duprey in 1982 before Walker and Rodas accrued it and sold back to Duprey in 2013, after which Solo Speed Shop purchased the first-gen model.
At the moment, this 1969 Camaro RS Z28 has just 22,639 miles showing on the odometer, and it’s an original Rally Sport Z28, albeit an early production, non-cowl hood, non-rear spoiler model. It’s still packing its original 302 cubic-inch V8, which sends power to the rear wheels via an M21 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt Positraction rear end stuffed with 3.73 gears.
On the outside, this Camaro sports some weathered LeMans Blue paint, along with the Endura front bumper, chrome rear bumper with bumper guards, the original Z28 Rally wheels, and BFGoodrich radial T/A tires. It’s paired perfectly with a black interior that’s also in pretty darn nice condition save for some dust and typical wear, which is to be expected given the heavily patina’d state of the exterior paint.
Regardless, we have no doubt this 1969 Camaro RS Z28 will fetch a pretty penny at auction in a couple of months, not only because it once resided in Paul Walker’s garage, but also, because it’s a pretty special machine in its own right. There’s just something about original, unrestored ’60s muscle like this that collectors love, and this one’s ownership history is bound to make it even more enticing when it crosses the block.
