Exhaust Flaps Give The 2017 Camaro ZR1 A Jekyll & Hyde Mode

What do you do when you get your hands on a brand new Camaro ZL1? Make recordings of the exhaust’s dual-mode settings to share with the internet, of course. That’s what Saabkyle04 has done with this video here, taking the time to explain the two different exhaust modes. He demonstrates them at idle, with throttle blips from the front and back of the car, shooting down a drag strip (A 12.5 second quarter that can easily be improved upon), and for a lap of Willow Springs “Big Willow” race course. Chevrolet’s new big-bruiser Camaro features the giant 650 HP supercharged LT4 engine that we’ve come to know and love from the Corvette Z06 and Cadillac CTS-V. In short, this is Chevy’s most powerful Camaro ever, and depending on what you look for in a car, the best. The car featured here is equipped with the new 10-speed sport automatic transmission.

The multi-mode exhaust system features a pair of butterfly valves that can divert the exhaust flow around the rearmost muffler if you are looking for a less muffled and throatier exhaust note. All of this can be done on-demand, and is automatically on when the car is set to “Track Mode”. As good as this massive V8 sounds, I’m not sure why anyone would ever want to drive the car in the quieter, more subdued “Stealth Mode.” Keep the flaps open and keep the throttle down!

If you want to see more on the Camaro ZL1, Saabkyle04 has also done a full 17+ minute breakdown review of the car with street, track, and drag strip driving. I was lucky enough to attend an on-track experience in ZL1 mules back in March of this year, and if you are so inclined, you can see that video here.
