2017 Chevy SS Might Get a Supercharged LSA Motor

The American badass sedan, the Chevy SS, and the Australian Holden Commodore seem to have their days numbered. But what’s already a big cloud of rumors that surround these two, another one arises, but this time, it’s a pretty hefty one.

According to GM Authority, rumors from inside the plant where the Commodore and SS are built, lead us to believe that General Motors is master-minding something special for the final run of the super sports sedan, like 580 horsepower special. Well, at least what we believe will be the final run, as that has yet to be confirmed as well.

In what’s already a web of rumors, a power bump of over 260 horses surrounds the final and upcoming model, but it’s how the SS could get to such output that’s really the big news. Speculators have reason to believe that Chevy plans on fitting the 6.2 liter LSA Supercharged V8 under the hood. If that’s the case, it’d be the first time a Chevy-badged sedan features a supercharged engine on American shores.

Sadly, sales of the SS are still slumping, and we’re just grateful that Chevy hasn’t pulled the plug on selling this muscle sedan in the States.

Think the LSA will happen?
