The 2022 Camaro will see minor changes for this model year and enter production on June 14.

The sixth-generation Chevy Camaro will apparently soldier on for several more years. That is fine with us as we love the current Camaro. Especially with the ever-increasing buzz of electric vehicles all around. It is nice to still be able to get a powerful V8. Speaking of the powerful V8 there are no expected changes to the LT1 or LT4 in the Camaro for 2022. The LT1 will continue to put out 455 horsepower and an equal amount of torque. The supercharged LT4 is expected to continue with the 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque figures. Also, there are no changes expected for the 3.6-liter V6 which makes 335 horsepower. The engine that is supposed to change is the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cyclinder. However, details on the specifics are not yet available.

According to the folks at GM Authority the order books for the 2022 Camaro will open on April 8. There is not much news in the engine department with the new Camaro. Not much news underneath either, as it will continue to ride on the Alpha platform. However, a new model year always brings a few tweaks and changes. In the case of the new Camaro this will include some new color options and minor equipment updates. One of the new expected colors is Rapid Blue. This color debuted on the Camaro SS 1LE that paced the Xfinity Series’ Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300. This was previously a Corvette-exclusive color.

Most of you are well aware that the Camaro made its debut for the 1967 model year. That means the 2022 Camaro would mark the 55-year anniversary of the model. It is quite an accomplishment for a model to have a run like that. However, we have some bad news for any special edition collectors out there. There are currently no plans to release a special model to commemorate the occasion.

This is likely due to the current sales slump the Camaro is experiencing. 2020 was a miserable year for all automakers, but the Camaro really took a hit. Chevrolet sold just under 30,000 examples of the Camaro in 2020. That is nearly 40 percent fewer than in 2019. With those numbers, it was tough to make a business case for a special edition.

Camaro

It is not all doom and gloom for the Camaro, not by a long shot. For about $35,000 you can step into a legendary Camaro powered by a stout V8 engine. It even comes standard with an honest to goodness 6-speed manual transmission. That is not something you can even get in the Corvette anymore.

The downturn in sales also offers opportunities. If you have always wanted to pickup a new Camaro, this may be the time to find some sweet deals. The Camaro is not exactly a rare car. However, a Rapid Blue 2022 car with a manual transmission may not be on every corner.

This is your chance to stand out from the crowd. Will you be ordering a 2022 Camaro? If so, let us know how you would spec it. Share your build in the LS1 Tech forums.
