2023 Corvette Z06 Hits the Dyno, Sure Looks to Be Underrated

2023 Corvette Z06 Dyno Test

This particular dyno run produces spectacular results for the brand new 2023 Corvette Z06.

2023 Corvette Z06 deliveries just began mere weeks ago, and the very first examples of the new track-focused model are landing in customer’s driveways as we speak. That means that we’re starting to see some videos on latest Z06 covering everything from its acceleration the more basic reviews. However, YouTuber Austin Everett behind the Speed Phenom channel appears to be the first to get a 2023 Corvette Z06 on the dyno, and the results of this particular session are rather eyebrow-raising, it seems.

As most are aware by now, the 2023 Corvette Z06 is powered by GM’s new naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V8, which is officially rated to produce 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers are enough to make the new Z06 the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8-powered car in history, so they’re obviously rather impressive by any measure. However, this powerplant impresses even more in this particular video.

That’s because the new Z put down 610 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque at the wheels, which is a very slim loss compared to the car’s factory crank-based ratings. Though results obviously can and do vary tremendously, most vehicles tend to lose somewhere between 10-15 percent of those same ratings at the wheels, but in this case, the C8 Z06 came in at around a nine percent loss in both horsepower and torque, which can mean a couple of different things.

Dyno results often vary by dyno, with some being notoriously generous compared to others, so that may have played a role here. On the other hand, it’s also quite possible that the C8 Z06 is a bit underrated in that regard. This has long been a common thing with the Corvette, with GM brass giving it more power than one might expect on numerous occasions throughout its 70 years in production. Regardless, we’ll know for sure once more of these cars wind up in customer hands and in turn, on dynos across the nation.
