If there is one thing that Australia will forever be known for, it’s big cube V8s in some wicked cars. Speedhunters took a look at Spot On Performance’s Torana and here are the highlights.

We never got a version of the Holden LJ-chassis Torana. Being a compact, rear-wheel drive car; about the closest thing to compare it to would be the Chevrolet Monza. The biggest difference between the two would be the Monza came with an optional V8 while the LJ did because of a scare of “bullets on wheels” in 1972 thanks to the Australian government and media.

Now that the car has entered its vintage ages, you now see them at drag strips much like our own Monzas with big engines. Australia like to take it further, though, and with turbochargers being big in Aussie tuning, it shouldn’t surprise you to see two big honking Garrett turbos.

The engine started out as a GM Performance LSX steel block with 427 cubic inch displacement. To improve the longevity of the engine, JE forged LS7 pistons are driven by Oliver connecting rods, which are pumped around by a Callies Performance Products crankshaft. Comp Cams drives the followers on a custom Spot On Performance grind.

That power is sent to a Stevens Motorsports Powerglide to a tune of 1,300 wheel horse power.
